American Arrested in Bizarre ‘Marijuana Announcement’ Bust

An American man has been arrested over possession of a small quantity of marijuana in Pattaya on Wednesday. In bizarre fashion, the man announced his possession of the illegal drug to a police patrol without provocation.

Pattaya, the 23^rd of September 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 5:00am on Wednesday, Sergeant Major Noppadol Lunput, patrolling in south Pattaya with other officers, arrested an American national in possession of the class-4 restricted narcotic, marijuana.

According to a police statement, the man, Mr Jeffery Allen Storner [56], had announced his possession of the illicit narcotic by ‘waving’ the substance at police, taunting them to arrest him. He was later found to be in possession of approximately 1 gram of the illegal narcotic.

Officer confronted Mr. Storner, who appeared in an intoxicated state in front of a local 7-Eleven on Soi 15, behind Wat Chaimongkol. According to the report, Mr. Storner professed loudly that he was an American national and that it was legal to smoke and possess marijuana in the United States.

Despite Mr. Storner’s insistence that the substance should be made legal in Thailand, Sgt. Maj. Lunput arrested him, explaining that it is a prohibited substance in Thailand, before taking him to the Pattaya Police Station for further interrogation over his possession of the drug.

Boy,oh Boy, it's amazing isn't it that these overseas Nationals continue to flout Thailand's pretty tough drug possession and usage laws.
Apart from any other consideration, it's a slap in the face of the local Police forces, who attempt to keep the population "clean" from these influences, and this person is obviously under some sort of delusional brain snap, that he's going to single handedly change the status of drug usage within the Kingdom. Don't fine or jail him, just throw him out of the Country (never to return) so he can pot head to his hearts content back in his homeland. What an idiot, and all like him.

with that said, obviously knows very little on how things roll here in thailand. yes, its ridiculous that someone could be arrested for as little as 1 gram of grass.. however, being new to the kingdon, the police arent using that law to rid the streets of drugs. they are using it to squeeze you for money. And then, flash it in their face without some tea money, and the boys in blue/brown/red/yellow/green/black are going to bust you..

Next time someone gets the feeling to do something this naive, do it without any drugs on your person or in your system.. shout, protest, what ever it is, just do so without breaking the law and as a falang, you can get away with it.... for a little while
