Bangkok Blasts Continue as PM Addresses Grenade Theft

Share
Another bomb has exploded in the Thai capital of Bangkok on Tuesday morning, according to authorities. The blast comes following Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva’s remarks that weapons stolen from the Lopburi army base recently may have been the result of ‘insiders’.

Bangkok, the 21st of September 2010: The latest in a long list of bombings that have disturbed Bangkok in recent months occurred early on Tuesday morning at the car park of Supavadee Towers in the capitals Ratchawat district.

The explosion is reported to have created a small hole in the surface of the car park and shattered the windshield of a nearby car, no casualties or injuries were reported. The owner of the car, a physician at the King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, has been unavailable for comment.

Police investigating the scene explain that no bomb fragments have be discovered by the Explosives Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD), increasing speculation that the device may have been some form of TNT or C4 ‘low pressure’ explosive.

CCTV coverage of the scene captured no images of any potential suspects involved with the incident, with police suspecting that the device had been thrown from outside the car park. No connection with the countries ongoing political situation has been mentioned.

Meanwhile, in response to a confirmation of approximately 30 rocket-propelled-grenades being stolen from the Lopburi army facility last week by Gen Anupong Paochinda, premier Abhisit has suggested that intelligence agencies were now investigating a reported ‘insider’ involvement in the crime.

Mr Abhisit said the army is now investigating the case and that security agencies must be on high alert due to the prevalence of this type of weaponry being used in ‘disturbing’ attacks across the nation. The premier then stipulated that no evidence to suggest that the thefts were the result of people looking to cause dissent, although security has been upgraded regardless.

It is now believed that the army are internally investigating the situation and those soldiers surrounding the operation of the strategic bases armoury and weapons supply.

Just as I was thinking of visiting Thailand, despite its rising prices for EVERYTHING, this happens.

It's clear this place will never stabilize. All we need is the tragedy of a stolen RPG pointed at an incoming airliner and the tourism industry will be completely gone - FOREVER.

Do these punk idiots know they are destroying themselves with their thuggery?

Off to Hanoi instead.

It seems that the Thais are really underestimating the impact of such news towards the economy. I lost several customers already because they dont want to deal with such an unstable country. So far i was able to make up for this with increased marketing efforts but i dont know how long that will work out until the time comes to say good bye to Thailand and hello to Vietnam.
I would highly appreciate if the Government would find a way to live in peace again with the folks and all this terrorist acts are stopped. I know and believe it is not easy but i also know it is not impossible to achieve. I think Ahbisit is a good and educated Man and he deserves a chance. Anybody who does not agree pls stop to destroy this beautyfull country and wait until the next election to vote.
