Terrorist Suspect Arrested in Amsterdam Airport

Police have arrested a British man at Amsterdam Airport on his way to Uganda for suspected terrorism after a tip off by Dutch authorities.

Amsterdam, 20^th September 2010: A British man originally from Somali was arrest at Amsterdam Airport yesterday on suspicion of terrorism. He arrived from Liverpool on his way to Entebbe in Uganda and was arrested before his connecting flight took off.

Police are investigating whether the man has links to a foreign militant group. British official have confirmed reports of the arrest by have refused to comment on reports that they were tipped off by the Dutch authorities.

Earlier this month, two Yemenis were released after being arrested in Amsterdam on suspicion of planning a terror attack after flying in from Chicago. The two men were held for several days before being released without charge after investigations failed to find any evidence to link them to a terrorist plot.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab from Nigeria was charged at the beginning of this year for trying to blow up a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on 24^th December 2009. A device was found sewn into his underwear containing an explosive. The case triggered a worldwide aviation security review.

Jonathan Evans, head of UK’s domestic intelligence service MI5 warned last week that the UK is faced with a continuous risk of a lethal terrorist attack taking place with Somalia and Yemen being important concerns as a source of serious plots against the country.

Uganda and Kenya are both popular transit routes for Europe based Somalis returning home.
