Pattaya, the 20th of September 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 4:30am on Monday, Lieutenant Padipat Moomlee (Pattaya Police Investigator) was notified of a suspected fatal motorbike accident along the Phratamnak Road. A team of officers along with the Sawang Boriboon Foundation were dispatched to the scene to investigate.

At the scene, a notoriously dangerous and steep section of the Phratamnak Road, a congregation of local residents and passing motorists had gathered to observe the situation. Officers found the deceased body of an unknown foreign man lying face-up in the middle of the road. Near the deceased body was the damaged remains of a Yamaha Tmax (hybrid scooter/race bike) hire motorbike.
Witnesses at the scene explained that they had observed two foreign men riding at speed along the Phratamnak Road before losing control of the bike at the scene. The bike allegedly crashed, at high speed, into a traffic sign positioned on the road. The passenger was thrown onto the road in the accident, dying instantly, while the driver attempted to escape on the damaged motorbike before fleeing on foot when it wouldn’t start.
Officers investigating the scene explained that no evidence of the identities of either man was found in the bike or on the deceased. Checks with the hire company responsible for providing the motorbike will be made on Monday in an attempt to identify the fugitive driver.
The deceased has now been transported to the Banglamung Hospital for a post-mortem examination, were it will be held in the morgue awaiting identification.
