Foreign Man Killed in High-speed Pattaya Motorbike Accident

Share
A foreign man has died on Monday morning after the motorbike he was riding pillion crashed on the notoriously dangerous Phratamnak Road. The driver in the accident, another foreign man, fled the scene before police and rescue officers arrived.

Pattaya, the 20th of September 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 4:30am on Monday, Lieutenant Padipat Moomlee (Pattaya Police Investigator) was notified of a suspected fatal motorbike accident along the Phratamnak Road. A team of officers along with the Sawang Boriboon Foundation were dispatched to the scene to investigate.

At the scene, a notoriously dangerous and steep section of the Phratamnak Road, a congregation of local residents and passing motorists had gathered to observe the situation. Officers found the deceased body of an unknown foreign man lying face-up in the middle of the road. Near the deceased body was the damaged remains of a Yamaha Tmax (hybrid scooter/race bike) hire motorbike.

Witnesses at the scene explained that they had observed two foreign men riding at speed along the Phratamnak Road before losing control of the bike at the scene. The bike allegedly crashed, at high speed, into a traffic sign positioned on the road. The passenger was thrown onto the road in the accident, dying instantly, while the driver attempted to escape on the damaged motorbike before fleeing on foot when it wouldn’t start.

Officers investigating the scene explained that no evidence of the identities of either man was found in the bike or on the deceased. Checks with the hire company responsible for providing the motorbike will be made on Monday in an attempt to identify the fugitive driver.

The deceased has now been transported to the Banglamung Hospital for a post-mortem examination, were it will be held in the morgue awaiting identification.

True Brit:

You are showing your True Hooligan British Footballer thinking in that you can not tell an advertizing photo from a scene photo. I don't see any photos of the bike for you to make your determinationm only the advertizing photo from Yamaha. I realize it is not captioned "as per normal by PDN" but this one should be self explanitory unless of course you are a British Footballer Hooligan as so many of the British men in Pattaya are.

Pattaya has to have the highest foeigner death rate of any tourist city in the world. Every day one dies somewhere in Pattaya. Not all from suicide as the authorities would like us to believe either.

That is all:

Another very sad fatal incident. At 4:30AM there is a probable cause of Alcohol involved. Why speed anyway at that hour? MB for hire and an accident? My 'guess' he was impaired and The outcome will be worse for the driver now. I also 'guess' that the deceased was the renter of the MB and the other man did a runner. Have a good time boys but please do not drink and drive.
