the supposed "girlfriend" is another examle of poor reporting. she was not his girlfriend nor has ever claied to be, in the 8 years she has known him.

the gentleman was a close friend of her entire family, she is a local businesswoman not a bar girl!.

the woman was and still is in a complete state of shock, she was with him just a few minutes before the accident.

this report was very misleading and whilst it may have looked good to its editor is full of rubbish as far as detail.

for what its worth... he was 69, not 50 as stated!

From respect to his friends and her family I dont see why I should post his name here, but I do wish the PDN would engage its brain before printing :(

any update on the ID of this poor guy yet. I saw the aftermath and it was pretty tragic/gruesome...the motorbike driver should be charged with vehicular homicide and he/his family should give 10,000,000 baht to the farangs relatives or loved ones overseas....

Sad. Gotta be more than careful. It's much safer to ride your own bike than walk. Even walking down a sidestreet is a nightmare. As for the monorail: many concerned citizens are having a meeting to address their concerns which they have grouped under environmental issues. The fact of the matter is that it will put a dent in their pocketbooks.

The supposed girlfriend didn't know his name, or nationality. Sounds like an opportunist passer-by to me. If he had been shopping, where was his wallet?

Bob, Couldnt agree with you more, baht bus drivers have caused lots of deaths here directly or indirectly, it will never change or be policed properly just lots of meetings & big time projects for the T.V or news papers, same as the cable ducts under beach road ? a simple foot bridge No way!!

Of course the "but for" cause was another stupid baht cab driver probably stopping in the middle of the street to pick up or discharge riders. Pattaya would be much safer with mandatory bus stops for the baht cabs which they are required to use.

What is it with Hugh Jorganand the mayor of Pattaya ? He keeps talking about the mayor as if they are best buddies.I find most of Hugh Jorgan's insulting and many times totally besides the point like this posting. This is supposed to be about a man getting killed in the crazy traffic in Pattaya and he just attacks other people.I hope the webmaster takes a closer look at his postings and gives him a warning.Pattaya is a dangerous to be nomatter where you go.The police should try to inforce the trafficlaws . . . . that is if they even know them.

In general, I think the police in this town should more aggressively target these out of control drivers instead of concentrating on the helmet infractions.

Always beware of these maggots on motorcycles. A friend of mine had to have his foot re-attached when one of the stupid kunts drove over his ankle whilst he was walking in the actual pavement..
Just bear in mind that a lot of Thais are like drips of water. Gormless bastards that will always take the shortest route between any two points.

This happened to me once and this is why. On the Soi 13 side there are either baht busses who are parked or stopped temporarily without getting close to the side of the road. If you walk across the road (from Avenue) it seems all safe until you walk past the baht bus and some idiot overtakes the baht bus in the small remaining 'gutter' on the left hand and you're unpleasantly surprised. The solution is not limited by building overpasses but by policing these baht buses.

Sad story...

Crossing the streets of Pattaya is a dangerous game. With drivers who lack road manners and other drivers who never took a driving course it really is Russian roulette.

I cross that street nearly every day. So many people live on one side of second road, and need to get to the other side of second road, but there are NO functional crosswalks. There are lines painted across the street, but most motorists ignore them.

Basically it's Russian roulette every day for those of us who live here and need to cross that road. How about building a pedestrian overpass to stop the frequent injuries and deaths on this road?

Look left, look right, look left, look right, look left, look right look up, look down repeat and then cross the road.

If in doubt dont cross or just follow a stray dog of at least 6 years old as they know the Thai roads better than any human.
