Finnish National Arrested in National Child Abuse Raid

A Finnish National has been arrested in Pattaya on Wednesday for allegedly indulging in sexual relations with a minor under the age of fifteen.

Pattaya 15th September 2010 [PDN] Police Colonel Worapong Tonpaiboon (Anti Human Trafficking Division Superintendent, AHTD) and his team on Wednesday arrested Mr. Pasi Earik Venaeinen (65), a Finnish national. Mr. Venaeinen was apprehended after an arrest warrant was granted by the Criminal Court on the 15th March 2010 over his alleged involvement with a 14-year-old girl.

In the national police raid, officers confiscated his passport, 10 pornographic DVD’s, 5 packets of Viagra and 10 condoms at his residence in the Diana Estate Condominiums in Soi Buakao, Central Pattaya.

Police from the AHTD were tipped off to Mr. Venaeinen’s illegal dealings when the mother of his 14-year-old victim filed a complaint with the national department stating that the offender had deceived and forced her daughter, Miss Nui (alias), into a sexual relationship.

Officers had monitored the activities of Mr. Venaeinen for several months before a warrant was issued and activated on Wednesday morning. Mr. Venaeinen at present denies all charges against him, explaining that he has lived in Pattaya for more than 15 years. He stated that he had met Miss. Poo (Alias), who announced herself as an agent providing underage girls to clients, but other than that had no interaction with the alleged victim.

Subsequently, Mr. Venaeinen has now been sent to for interrogation at the AHTD head offices while officers continue their investigations into the identity and whereabouts of Miss Poo.

Editor’s note: It is interesting to note that the Royal Thai Police have recently welcomed a new Commissioner-General to the force, which may in part explain the current lack of local police news in our media.

A direct result of this new appointment has seen national authorities, such as the AHTD, increase their involvement in national hotspots – Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai – with the specific intent of impressing the new chief and to a certain extent undermine the local law enforcement.

Wednesday morning’s arrest of Mr. Venaeinen came unannounced by the national bodies, who did not even inform local authorities or their respective regional branches.

Im afraid that this could also be a increasing way to cash foreign men in todays Thailand. Lack of tourists (income) could make police and local people to set up stupid farangs (expats) to pay big compensation to "victims". There are good reasons why the police may have seized the porno and the viagra, and Western police would have done the same thing. If the pornography was child porn it would show a propensity to commit offenses against children as well as being a crime itself. As for the viagra, the victim may have described him as using such pills, or they simply have beens seized because they are sexual in nature. Police in western countries will seize anything they even thing might be relevant, and one can expect the Thai police to do the same.
Also, if I'm nit mistaken Donkey, the law was changed last year and Viagra is now available at all pharmacies from any pharmacist.
I hope this man is guilty because I would hate to see anyone innocent go through this. The turf war between police agencies sounds like a dangerous situation.
