Former Champion Hatton Caught in Cocaine Controversy

Share
Former boxing champion Ricky Hatton has apparently been filmed by Britain’s News of the World using cocaine at a Manchester hotel in what is being reported as a 10-hour drink and drugs binge by the national press.

United Kingdom, the 13th of September 2010: Following Sunday’s revelations by the UK press, the former champion’s spokesman Max Clifford told the BBC, “He’s very upset and very down as you’d imagine. He said he feels he’s let everyone down: himself, family, friends and the many fans who have been nothing but supportive.”

Furthering claims that the former multi-weight division champion had been partying to an excess in order to cover up his reported battles with depression and retirement, Clifford added, “He does recognise that he’s in a bad way mentally and been in a bad place for some considerable time, a year or so. I hope this will bring him to his senses and make him face up to a problem that has been concerning people for a while.”

Hatton built up a legion of loyal fans in a glittering career that took off when he claimed the Light Welterweight title in 2005 with a superb display against Australian Kostya Tszyu. He then went on to win titles at welterweight before putting an unbeaten record on the line against Floyd Mayweather Junior, who inflicted his first defeat following a eighth round knockout.

Given a chance to reprise his defeat to Mayweather, Hatton accepted a bout against the world’s best pound-for-pound boxer, Filipino, Manny Pacquiao, losing via knockout in only the second round. Since that encounter in 2009, Hatton has been in semi-retirement, with whispers of a return never eventuating.

Meanwhile, most recent reports suggest that the fallen star has been admitted into a rehab clinic in the UK suffering from “severe depression”. The British Boxing Board of Control is also looking to talk to the former champion over recent revelations and a possible revocation of his boxing licenses. Hatton since his retirement from fighting has recently been working as a promoter.

Screw Britain and their stupid drug laws. It's his body, he's an adult and he should be able to put whatever he wants into his own body.

I'm tired of stupid arrogant governments telling me what is right or wrong.
