TMB Money Truck Heist Nets Perps Bt16 Million in Bangkok

A TMB money truck robbery near the Seacon Square mall in eastern Bangkok, has netted the criminals, who left one guard in a critical condition, approximately Bt16 million, according to Thai police.

Bangkok, the 10th of September 2010: Conducted in a similar manner to a recent ‘Farmhouse’ money truck heist, the perpetrators pounced on the stationary vehicle, bashing a single guard before making off with cash in a separate vehicle.

Thanachote Mangprakhone [40], the driver of the involved money courier, sustained serious injuries in the robbery after having been repeatedly pistol whipped by the perpetrators.

Mr. Mangprakhone had been guarding the truck, positioned off Sringarindra Road, alone when the robbery occurred. Two further guards were inside the nearby TMB branch at the Seacon Square mall unloading money at the time.

He said one robber approached the truck and held him at gunpoint, before pistol whipping him several times and forcing him into the truck. A second offender then held him down on the floor of the vehicle, threatening to shoot him if he did not comply with their demands.

The perpetrators then drove the vehicle a short distance into nearby Soi Sringarindra 57 before unloading the money into a waiting vehicle with a third offender driving. Before abandoning the TMB truck, the offenders beat Mr. Mangprakhone unconscious. He said he recovered a short while later, before informing police of the incident.

The pickup used by the offenders is thought to be a gold-bronze Toyota Vigo, with unknown registration plate. An unnamed TMB source stated that the truck had been holding approximately Bt16 million at that point in its run.

At present, police are interviewing the two unidentified guards not present at the incident, while further investigations with Mr. Mangprakhone will take place pending his discharge from hospital.
