Pattaya, the 10th of September 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 4:00am on Friday, Lieutenant Chaliew Bunkhum (Pattaya Police Investigator) was notified of a severe car accident at the Loma roundabout in North Pattaya. At team of officers along with emergency response and rescue teams were dispatched to the incident to investigate.

At the scene, Pattaya Beach Road just off the Loma roundabout, officers observed the two involved vehicles, a blue Isuzu baht-bus and black Nissan frontier, positioned
on the roadside in severely damaged states.
According to witnesses at the scene, the driver of the black Nissan, Mr. Francois Joseph Giannini [46], a Canadian national, was driving at high-speed from Pattaya-Naklua Road. He allegedly avoided the roundabout, crashing into the side of the baht bus, which had been turning onto Beach Road from the Pattaya 2nd Road. The baht-bus was then thrown into a coconut tree on the side of the road before coming to a stop.
Three passengers had been ejected from the baht-bus in the collision, while a further six and the driver of the bus were severely injured in the accident. All involved passengers were Thai nationals (8 females & 1 male). The nine passengers were transported to varying hospitals around Pattaya, one woman reportedly later died of her injuries at the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.

Emergency crews, using the ‘jaws of life’, worked for over 30-minutes to free the driver of the bus, who is thought to have suffered a fractured neck in the accident. Mr.
Giannini and his Thai wife reportedly only suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision; both were later taken to hospital for treatment. Mr. Giannini is thought to have been intoxicated and/or under the influence of illegal narcotics at the time of the incident, with witnesses stating that he was ‘roistering’ around immediately following the accident.
At present, police investigating the incident, reported Mr. Giannini’s ignorance of the roundabout and his apparent intoxication and/or drug use as the overriding factors in the fatal crash. Officers are now in the process of obtaining statements from all involved in the accident, while blood/alcohol tests have been conducted on Mr. Giannini.

Why not a law for drunk driving?
Make signs around Pattaya, in bars, malls, hotels etc with the penalty for driving drunk.
The people are big problem especially in
Pattya and we see like this attitude every day. especially usa and canadians.
Lets not forget that this is a totally preventable accident and could have been caused by any number of drunken drivers on any given night or day in Pattaya.
The worst offenders are the locals who drink constantly and drive while under the influence. This Canadian Chap is getting what he deserves and his nationality should have nothing to do with it. So, I say to all of you wanna-be authors stick to the facts and keep your racist thoughts to your self.
When I see an American being as nationalistic as Paul Trumble is, I think he should be reminded of his own not so world wide loved nationalist reputation. Get a life Mr. Paul. Learn how to spell your own name with capital letters at the same time.
True Yank doesn't even deserve this comment of his stupidity and obviously has forgotten his own roots. Probably British or French or African.
Hugh, as per normal, you are an idiot and know nothing of which you speak. Get a grip on yourself and be more logistic in your comments. Canadians and Americans spend more in the Pattaya per person that you do so put that in your Winston Cigar and smoke it. Since when does the mayor of Pattaya have any say in the control of Thai Visas. Geeeees!!! As rediculous as this statement may appear, it is on par with your comments. So Hugh, Pee Off....
That is all:
To be honest 80% of posters here can do the same STOP jumping to conclusions read the article and stop saying this nation or that one is wrong MAYBE IT'S YOU that is wrong ,....
I would imagine that out of all these victims, more than one has connections...
I am happy to see Pattaya has some kind of professional emergency responds. In my part of bkk they come in a pick-up and smell of whiskey. Great if your really hurt.
When is this country going to get its ass up to the pace of other countries? Why this goverment never does something smart? Million dollar question.
He discoved your overweight under educated excuse for a county so what is your point?
Nationality has very little to do with accidents such as this.
If you are a typical yank, just about says it all about your country.
