Pattaya, the 6^th of September 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 1:30am on Monday, Major Kriangkrai Buakla (Pattaya Police Investigator) was notified of a stabbing incident at the Nordic Residence Hotel in Soi Phratamnak 4, Phratamnak Hill. A team of officers along with the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were dispatched to the scene to investigate.

Arriving at the Nordic Residence Hotel, officers were escorted to the room of Mr. Tony Hoen [40] a Norwegian national, who had been stabbed in a drunken dispute with another foreigner. Mr. Hoen was rendered first aid at the scene, before being rushed to the Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital suffering from a stab wound to the stomach.

In the condominium, police observed a substantial amount of blood on the floor, while the living room showed signs of a struggle. Officers found a 3-4 inch stainless steel kitchen knife on the dining table, believed to be the assault weapon.

Under interrogation, Mr Hoen’s Thai wife Mrs. Phimjai Soiphim [28], explained that her and her husband had been drinking alcohol together with a third man at their room for most of the evening. Mrs. Soiphim explained that she and her husband had met their new friend earlier in the day, stating that she did not even know his name or nationality.

Allegedly, having become overly drunk, Mrs. Soiphim decided to retire for the evening, at which point the assault occurred. Mrs. Soiphim revealed that she was awoken by a disturbance in the living room, thought to be the result of Mr. Hoen and his new friend arguing over the use of the Hi-Fi. Appearing from the room, she discovered the stabbing, immediately informing authorities.

Investigations have now begun in an attempt to identify the offender, while police will seek to interview Mr. Hoen upon his discharge from the hospital.
