Aged Swiss National Found Dead in Pattaya Condominium

An elderly Swiss man has been found dead in his Pattaya condominium on Saturday. At present the cause of death is unknown, however the man had reportedly been ill having returned from a visa trip to Cambodia on the previous day.

Pattaya, the 4th of September 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 4:30am, Lieutenant Colonel Phatsa Detphakhul (Pattaya Police Investigator) was notified of a foreign death at the Rungfa Condominiums on Sukhumvit Road, Central Pattaya. A team of officers along with the Sawang Boriboon Foundation were dispatched to the incident to investigate.

On arrival at the scene, a 9th floor condominium, police discovered the deceased body of Mr. Jean Pierre Louis Delachat [73] lying face-up on the bed. Investigation of the apartment revealed no signs of a struggle or search of the premises, while Mr. Delachat’s body did not appear to show any signs of an assault.

Investigation with condominium management revealed that Mr. Delachat had been a pleasant tenant of the complex with several friends in the building. He had reportedly lived in the area for approximately 10 years.

An unnamed source explained to PDN that Mr. Delachat had only returned from a visa run to the Cambodian border on Friday. On the trip, he had reportedly collapsed/fainted at the border before becoming quite ill on the return journey to Pattaya.

At present, officers speculate that Mr. Delachat had died of a heart attack, unknown chronic illness or congenital disease while alone in his room. The deceased’s body will now be sent to the Forensic Science Institute for a post-mortem examination before the Swiss Embassy is informed.

Sounds like natural causes. Must be a slow news day for someone dying of natural causes to make the headlines.

Sad story. If he was still doing visa runs, that probably means he did not have sufficient income to qualify for a retirement visa, and probably could not afford to present himself at the local "for profit" hospital either.

This is not a criminal case, just a case of a peaceful ending to a 10 year retirement in Pattaya.

I don't know his financial position however a retirement visa would have saved him travelling to Cambodia every time he needed a visa renewal.

Not a bad innings Jean Pierre I hope to see you in about 37 years if I behave myself.

Perhaps your comments should be more about why a 70+ year old man, has to put up with a 10 hour mini bus journey in close humid conditions? No wonder the poor guy had an heart attack...Also an ambulance was called at 4.30am? Kind of a funny time to pop into someones room and find them dead wouldnt you say?Not that im saying there was any foul play it seems fairly obvious he's died of natural causes.

Anyway try to have a bit of compassion when somebody dies! It could be you or a member of your family next time!

He doesn't look a day over 70 in his passport photo which was taken when he was 59.

Too bad those that noticed his illness did not take him to hospital. He was clearly having a heart attack under their very noses.
