Toddlers Curious Stand-off with Tormented Bengal Tiger

A frightened mother yesterday rescued her two-year-old child from the near clutches of a 230kg Bengal Tiger at a U.S. zoo. The tiger and tot were involved in curious standoff after the feline had wandered the parks grounds for approximately 20 minutes.

United States, the 2nd of September 2010: Despite the uneventful encounter, still shaken mother, Diana Barrett says that she will not be renewing her family pass to the Jungle Island Zoo in Miami after her daughters ‘lucky escape’ in front of the parks resident tiger, Mahesh.

The 230kg Bengal tiger escaped its enclosure after another animal, a mischievous gibbon known as Watson, had escaped tormenting her into jumping the 12-foot enclosure fence.

Roaming the park freely for approximately 20 minutes, Mahesh then came within 10 feet of a startled toddler Dianita Barrett [2], the pair locking eyes in a curious standoff. Ms Barrett claims that she had found the pair calmly staring at each other.

“I rounded the corner and she’s standing there staring at this tiger. About 10 to 15ft away from her just standing there not moving, neither two of them were moving,” explained Ms Barrett.

Ms Barrett, acting quickly and very calmly removed her daughter from the potentially lethal situation before informing park officials of the incident.

She told an MSNBC reporter, “Well the tiger was very calm and I didn’t want to make it anxious at all so I took a few steps towards her [Dianita], picked her up, and walked in the other direction.”

The zoo has apologised over the incident, claiming the escape of the notoriously antagonistic primate, Watson, mischievously encroaching on Mahesh’s enclosure caused her to leap over the 12ft fence.

While Mahesh’s foray into the parks grounds is being deemed a freak accident, the gibbon’s escape from its enclosure is reportedly being investigated, with the zoo expected to be heavily fined over the incident.

Bangkok Post is a boring newspaper where people generally write sensible comments in the forums.This newspaper is I think the most interesting one for farangs in Thailand but here people mostly write alot of BS.A mother that leaves her 2 yearold daughther and walks off should be punnished,not felt sorry for.Lets try to be alittle serious . . . this is not a laughing matter.
