August 29th 2010: Found dead with only a picture of himself and his recently deceased son, Brett chose to end his own life over the tragic accident, taking a deadly concoction of over 30 pills in a Pattaya hotel room. Only a brief suicide note, professing his absolute love and adoration for Michael (his son) were left as a saddening tribute to the untimely loss of two young souls.
Brett’s love for his ‘baby boy’ was so profound, residents at his rented Pattaya condominium exclaimed that the pair were “inseparable” and that the boy was a “delightful young lad” much loved by all that had the pleasure of meeting him. A relative super-star of the condominium complex, Michael was often looked after by neighbours and friends, as his father went to work as a local Muay Thai (kickboxing) trainer to provide for himself and his son.
Following his birth in the Philippines, Brett took Michael to live in his native homeland of the United States, believing a better life could be afforded for him there. Although the circumstances surrounding his move between countries are unknown, Brett’s love for his little boy has been the overbearing sentiment expressed by all that have commented on their tragic passing.
Brett’s love for Michael went beyond what would be deemed that of a ‘normal’ father, a statement made due largely to the bond created between the pair following Michael’s brief kidnapping ordeal in 2008. Recently relocating back to the U.S. at the time, Michael (1½-years-old) was reportedly kidnapped by his 15-year-old nanny and an unknown accomplice. The ordeal, lasting approximately 24hrs before local police successfully apprehended the pair, was described by Brett at the time as being “a nightmare.”

Although perhaps a little careless in that instance, Brett had entrusted the woman, who he believed to have been 19-years-old, to look after his son while he was actively seeking employment following his return from the Philippines. The brief kidnapping ordeal reportedly helped to strengthen his love and devotion to his son, something that he himself described as a quick parental learning curve.
Raising his beloved son on his own, Brett, like many other single parents, struggled with the burdens associated with earning a living and caring for his child. Described as an always jovial and friendly character, Brett, like all of us has made some mistakes, perhaps errors in judgement, but through all the trials and testing times his love and dedication shone through as a testament to the mans pure determination to succeed in life and as a single parent.
Despite any misgivings or mistakes, Brett’s love for Michael is ultimately shown by his death, a tragic but ever eternal tribute to the loss of two young souls, taken from this world in the most regrettable an undeserved of situations.

Your little brother,

It is the saddest thing I have read so far.
I just can't get it out of my mind how much the little boys father adored his son and must have been inconsolable over all this...
RIP and may God be with you both.
Deeply sorry to this family.
May God give them everlasting
rest in heaven.
Rest in peace Brett and Michael.
You are a grade A TWAT. Why do you constantly feel you need to comment on everything and then twist it around. This is a very sad story here on PDN and your comment is not welcome.
RIP Brother, at least you and your son are together again.
He obviously could not live with himself after this tragic accident and probably felt he was the only one to blame.
At least now he will feel no guilt and no more grief.
The only good news is they are both at rest now.
Thanks for the nice salute to Brett and Mickey from PDN.
Its time to be human and hug those that you love and that love you.
May god bless you both and i now hope you are together again.
