139th Chon Buri Buffalo Racing Festival 2010 Announced

On Tuesday, an official meeting was held announcing the ever-popular staging of the 139th Chon Buri Buffalo Racing Festival 2010 at the Chon-Buri Provincial and District Fields.

Chon-Buri, the 24^th of August 2010 [PDN]: Chaired by Chon-Buri Governor Senee Jitkasem from the Chon-Buri Meeting Hall, the organisational meeting was held to announce plans for the hosting of the 139^th Chon-Buri Buffalo Racing Festival. Present at the meeting were, Chon-Buri administration officials, Chon-Buri Municipal officers and representatives from the Pattaya Tourism Authority of Thailand.

In what is being called a preliminary announcement, the popular festival will take place at the Chon-Buri provincial and district fields over the 16^th-22^nd of October 2010. The festival will be separated into two segments, with all merchandise stalls, games, activities, exhibits and shows to be held on one field while the main attraction of Buffalo Racing will be held separately.

Kicking off the festival will be a traditional Thai parade involving Chon-Buri and the surrounding districts displaying the unique Thai culture and tradition surrounding the festival. The opening ceremony will be followed by the ‘Buffalo Pageant,’ were awards will be given to best male and female buffalo, and several other pageant style competitions involving trainers, breeders and jockey’s.

Unique to and an ancient pastime in Thailand, the Buffalo Racing this year will be separated into four categories based on the varying size of the animal and jockey. Classifications will include super tiny, tiny, small and large.

Along with a range of merchandise and souvenir stalls due to appear at the festival, organisers plan to stage several other attractions and events in addition to the races, including, local sports tournaments, quizzes, oil post climbing, rattan ball games and Thai boxing to name but a few.

In addition to the above, a variety of concerts are planned for the festival involving numerous well-known Thai artists from the country and pop music genres.

My girlfriend was going to enter her family beast in this year's race, but had to cancel a few days before the event, due to the animal's severe illness. She asked me for help in her letter - "Teeruk, please help, My Buffalo Sick, send money!"
