Express Rail Link between Bangkok & Suvarnabhumi Opens Monday

Share
The airport train link connecting Bangkok with Suvarnabhumi International Airport will begin commercial services on Monday, according to State Railway of Thailand (SRT) governor Yuthana Thapcharoen.

Bangkok, the 18th of August 2010: Announcing the opening, Mr. Thapcharoen explained that both the Airport link’s Express Service and City Line systems would begin operation on Monday. Trains will run every 15-minutes from 6:00am-midnight.

According to reports, the City Line will make eight stops, starting from Phayathai before finishing at the airport. Fares start from a meagre Bt15. The Express Service is a non-stop service between Makkasan and Suvarnabhumi, with the fare being Bt100 per trip.

Despite the opening of all services, officials revealed that the baggage handling system at the Makkasan station is still not operational, asking passengers with excessive luggage to use other airport services.

Meanwhile, the panel set to study the Transport Ministry’s project to lease approximately 4,000 NGV buses for a total of Bt64 million should be formulated this month, according to Deputy Prime Minister in charge of economic affairs Trairong Suwannakhiri.

“I haven’t looked into the committee for studying the bus lease plan yet as the budget for the next fiscal year must be done first,” Mr Trairong said.

He said Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij, Transport Minister Sophon Zarum, National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) secretary-general Ampon Kittiampon and the Budget Bureau had been invited to help consider the bus lease plan.
