Pattaya, the 17th of August 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 1:00am on Tuesday, Colonel Athiswit Kamonrat (Chon-Buri Immigration Superintendent) conducted a raid on the “Dre’s Bar” in Soi Buakhao, Central Pattaya. The raid was instigated after investigating officers had observed the premises being managed and operated by a foreign national.
Lead officer, Col. Kamonrat revealed the arrest of Mr. Andre Verdoodt [58], who had been observed serving drinks, managing staff and generally “entertaining” customer’s needs. Mr. Verdoodt was detained and a search conducted after he failed to provide a valid work permit. He did however have a valid Belgian passport, Thai visa and bar license registered in his Thai wife’s name.
Under interrogation, Mr. Verdoodt denied being the bar manager or performing the duties that he was accused of, while stating that his wife, Mrs Chabaprai Inchiya [38], is the owner and operator of the establishment, as it is stated on all relevant paperwork.
Officers searching the premises for evidence linking Mr. Verdoodt to the operations of the bar, uncovered a receipt from an alcohol distribution company, referencing Mr. Verdoodt’s mobile phone as the contact. Mr. Verdoodt continued to deny being involved with the managing of the premises, but was arrested for further investigations and taken to the Pattaya Police Station.
Editor’s note: Assuming that Mr. Verdoodt is the financier of the bar, this case stands as a prime example of how a seemingly innocent foreigner can be caught up in an Immigration nightmare for merely being in a bar “owned” my his Thai wife, let alone entertaining friends on the premises.
Despite this case being fairly minor, with Mr. Verdoodt and his wife having all the relevant paperwork for both the bar and its operations, Mr. Verdoodt will still face a tough time from Pattaya Police over the incident and a possible day in court. Unless of course the matter is solved by, other means or “dismissed” by the authorities.

Advice dont have a business in the country. And stay the hell away from Pattaya. Let them starve there and maybe things will change.
The rules and hoops to jump through are just not worth it and most don't turn a reasonable profit anyway in relation to the stress/cost V benefit equation.
You can invest here and wave goodbye as the playing field is heavily tilted against the foreigner. Better just to give it to charity or straight to the wife/police.
If the evidence is this vague and questionable, stick to your story of being only the spouse of the manager, and deny any involvement to any work contribution. Let the case go to the court: Either the court will dismiss the case or give you a minor fine (thousands of bahts; up to 20 000 baht.). IF the evidence is only as stated here, there is no deportation or jail time for sure! You do NOT need to swallow all the shit the corrupt Thai police tries to feed you!
PS: I don't know who is taking the profits of the bar, but it is very weird.
goodday
can't they play by the rules ?
Immediately, when they saw the bar's name ....... ???????
This bar exists there for many years already !!!
Immediately, when they saw the bar's name, they made the connection: "Dre's Bar" that must be the bar of Dre, Andre Verdoodt of course. Not of a Thai lady.
Congratulations... for pestering that entertaining man!
Here is my list of business I think would make more money than bars in Pattaya
1. A sunbed shop
2. A nolvelty rock emporium
3. A toy shop
In fact anything but a bar.
CHEERS. You run a farm I understand.
They are also bigots who hate blacks and i mean hate..Even most bar girls who i have observed, dont mind openly dismissing black 'suitors'...Of course some girls are openly attracted to ebony guys, as well.
Lets face it they're corrupt and always will be! What a nasty sneaky trick, to try and set up a guy who's only trying to make a succesful life for himself and his family!
Karma to the scummy boys in brown!
B. Make sure you Trust your wife two million percent before you set up a business in her name.
