The Sriracha Tiger Zoo announced the opening of several new tourist attractions and activities recently. The announcements were made in preparation for Her Majesty the Queens birthday on the 12th of August.

Sriracha, the 6th of August 2010 [PDN]: Tiger Zoo Managing Director Mr. Maitri Temsiriphong yesterday announced the opening of a variety of new attractions for visiting tourists and the impending Queen’s birthday festival.

The highlight of the new developments include the introduction of a “Tiger Food Shooting” activity for the tourists. Following an increase in requests to feed the animals from visiting people (believed to bring luck in Thai culture), the Tiger Zoo has incorporated a target shooting activity into the Tiger enclosure. Participants will shoot at targets with a pellet rifle, releasing fresh meat into the tiger enclosure, where the 20 residents tigers will then pounce.

Several other new attractions to be included into the Tiger Zoo’s regular program and for the Queen’s birthday celebrations include;

-          Piglets being fed by the female tiger

-          Piglets and tiger cubs playing together

-          Photograph opportunities with tiger cubs and the baby crocodiles

-          A new flower garden exhibit centered around a relaxing “coffee corner” café at the zoo.

Managing Director Mr. Temsiriphong revealed the recent changes in the Tiger Zoo’s operation and an upgrade of its facilities as a direct result of tourist feedback and a need to adjust to the ever-changing tourism industry of the region.

It is hoped that the inclusion of a variety of new activities and attractions will help the Sriracha Tiger Zoo in the future profit from an increase in tourists coming to visit the new attractions. The Tiger Zoo is very popular with local and travelling Thai families as the Tiger is a very significant animal in their culture.

This "Tiger Food Shooting" activity sounds (and looks) interesting, but I don't think it would go over well at USA zoos. We have too many politically correct critics who would scream at this idea!

Its about time that they did something cause on a visit in April the whole Tiger Zoo seemed to me run down and wide areas in desperate need for renovation - at this time I think it wasn´t very attractive for internatinal tourists
