Pattaya, the 6th of August 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 11:00am on Friday, Major General Niwat Rattana Thammawat along with Colonel Somnuk Changate from the Banglamung Police Station instigated a search and arrest warrant on a residential house in Soi Khao Noi, Banglamung.
A warrant was issued on the premises after various reports stipulated that the location was be being used as a base for an illegal call-center scamming operation. Allegedly, a group of largely Taiwanese nationals had been scamming both Thai and foreign customers into revealing private banking information under the pretence of being an official or representative of a bank or credit union.

During the raid on the two-storey house, which appeared to be abandoned from the outside, officers arrested 13 suspects (9 Taiwanese and 4 Chinese) including the leader of the operations, Mr. Wang Jui Yuan [35] from Taiwan. Police confiscated some 8 notebooks, 20 telephones, internet modems, routers, ATM cards and bankbooks from over 30 branches).
All suspects have now been remanded in police custody pending further interrogation and judicial proceedings, while investigations into the scam are currently ongoing by local authorities.
