Tourists and locals alike flocked to Pattaya’s beaches over the long weekend as temperate weather and an extra day off work ensured a perfectly exciting day of frolicking on the sand and in the sea.

Pattaya, the 26th of July 2010 [PDN]: Beach bed operators were run off their feet and the seas inundated with eager swimmers as all and sundry flocked to the Pattaya beaches over the long weekend to enjoy a fun filled day in the sun.

Apart from the inevitable traffic jams, reported from Sriracha all the way into Pattaya at certain points of the day, Asarnha Bucha celebrations and the extra day off work that it afforded were enjoyable for all.

Food, merchandise and water activity business all reported remarkable numbers visiting the Jomtien and Pattaya beaches, while all beamed at the positive sales that ensued. One local Som-tam vendor, operating at Jomtien, remarked that it was the busiest day he had had since the end of the New Year high season.

Families were in abundance as the elderly sat under the shade of umbrella’s while children and eager adults alike positively invaded the waters as the sun and temperate weather maintained. Despite fears of an afternoon down poor, the heavens held back until later in the evening, when most had moved on.

Reportedly, Jomtien beach received the majority of traffic, with locals and tourist alike looking to take advantage of the bigger beach and comparatively cleaner waters.

One eager tourist, Khun Orm, explained that she always brought her family to Pattaya for the long weekend revealing yesterday’s turnout as the biggest she has seen in a long time.

Meanwhile, today the tourists have remained, albeit in less numbers, whilst many locals have resumed or are preparing for commencing the working week, starting tomorrow.

Pattaya and jomtien don't have beaches. They have tiny strips of sand which can't be seen because they are covered in sun umbrellas and deck chairs which you have to pay for.
Get rid of them all and let the stupid farrangs bring there own towels to the beach.

TOT of Thailand tourists come from the cold to lie in the sun all day and turn red, blister and get sand in the crack of their arse.

This is what makes them happy.

Were someone to ask me, I'd say low season is the best time in Patts. A much greater percentage of the smiles are real this time of year.
Truly relaxing.

Nice to see the importance of clean beaches alluded to in this report. There must surely be a few local beach traders rueing the fact that Jomtien is favoured over Pattaya. The solution is simple. Clean up the beach and clean up the acts of some of the operators and spivs who work the beach in Pattaya. The beach is a major asset to Pattaya yet fails to get the protection it deserves.
Beaches in parts of Mediterranean Europe were once huge assets to local economies but were allowed to decline to the extent that revenue declined. Prevention is always better than cure. So come on Pattaya City Council, protect and improve your beach now, before it is too late.
(Rant over, sorry.)
