Thaksin Tweets Peace in Birthday Message to Supporters

Share
Former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra marked his 61st birthday celebrations Monday with a series of “tweets” on popular public broadcast website Twitter. Addressing his supporters, Thaksin called for peace while maintaining the need to persevere against all injustices.

Thailand, the 26th of July 2010: To mark his 61st birthday celebrations, Thaksin, now in self-imposed exile from the Kingdom, thanked his 116,814 followers on Twitter for their support, urging people to maintain the perseverance of injustices and cruelty.

“People, who love me and wish me well, need to persevere against injustice and cruelty. Please don’t solve the problem through violence because I don’t like it and disagree with it,” the ousted premier said.

Thaksin also expressed his willing to “work with all sides for the restoration of peace in the country,” without further elaborating.

The address comes after Sunday night’s devastating bombing attack at a bus stop in the heart of Bangkok’s business district. Although no group has confirmed responsibility for the attack, speculation is that it is linked to the ongoing political situation in Thailand.

The controversial former premier, sentenced in absentia to 2 years imprisonment over abusing his position of power in negotiating a Bangkok real estate deal with his now ex-wife, finished his Twitter address by stating, “I’m aging and I want to see good things happening in the country.”

Meanwhile, Thaksin loyalists in Thailand’s rural north held birthday celebrations in several provinces to show their continued love and support of their political figurehead.

Reportedly, Thaksin himself phoned a birthday gathering at a Buddhist temple in his hometown of Chiang Mai, telling hundreds that he wants to return home.

Maybe if the Thai media would start treating this thief as a "has been", instead of giving him so much undeserved attention, the whole country would be better off. You do not see articles about Blair and Bush every day in their home countries media anymore, because they are has beens.

The working class people of Thailand need to have patience then vote for a new government like other civilised societies around the world.

Thaksin is both a saint and a sinner like the rest of mankind, however Thailand can not afford to make its country anymore undesireable to the outside world.

Thaksin supporters yes you are welcome to build a new government but please do it the correct way.

That is by the following the rules democraticaly.
