Pattaya, the 25th of July 2010 [PDN]: On Sunday morning, Lieutenant Colonel Chatchai Srisuwan (Pattaya Police Investigator) received a report from a Russian couple regarding an assault and attempted robbery near Soi 4 on the Phratamnak Road.

Miss Olesya Pobtolenko [32] explained that her and her husband, Mr. Ivan Boga Tyrev [30], had been attacked by two Thai youths whilst walking back to their Royal Beach Condo on Phratamnak Road.
Allegedly, the two youths, aged between 18-25 years of age, attempted to snatch the necklace of Miss Pobtolenko while driving past the couple on a black/white motorbike. The pair were unsuccessful in their attempts to snatch the necklace as Mr. Tyrev had anticipated the event, pulling his wife away from the attack and grabbing at the offenders.
During the ensuing struggle with the still moving motorbike, Mr. Tyrev was stabbed in the shoulder and back, before falling to the ground. The offenders allegedly then viciously stomped on him, resulting in further injury to his ear and a cut to the head. Miss Pobtolenko received a torn shirt in the initial robbery attempt.
Following the incident, Miss Pobtolenko assisted her husband back to their condominium, before driving him to the Banglamung Hospital for treatment. Upon being discharged from the hospital, the couple reported the incident to the Pattaya Police Station.
Accordingly, Lt. Col. Srisuwan filed a report on the incident and forwarded it to the investigations department, who will now attempt to locate the attackers.
While leaving the police station in a rather forlorn state, Mr. Tyrev revealed that he had been a victim of a bag snatch on one another occasion in 2009. He exclaimed his disbelief at the inability of the Thai police to effectively deal with incidents of this nature in an international tourism destination.

Always have a few dollars on you.. And if your robbed throw a dollar or two on the ground and walk the other way.
This works in Brazil... It might work in Thailand.
Again another serious incident and the Thai police will do nothing. Pattaya is NOT safe for Expats as the police or either drunk or locked up in the police cells making plans how to get there lunch money the next day.
And the sad fact is IF?? a falang tries to stop and get into a fight with these thugs the Thai police will arrest them.
After 5 years living in Thailand, it’s time to look at other countries that don’t see us falangs as money machines. Police, Bar Girls, thugs, serious criminals and even the families of are Thai GF’s can’t stop taking the piss LOL
Dave
Sick of Thailand
Sterotypes of any race or large group indicate the ignorance of those perpetuating them.
Internet warriors are a dime a dozen, and contemptuous disregard of others (falang OR Thai, etc.) is childish and unwarranted.
After the purse snatching a year ago you'd think they'd get a clue and sell the condo. What makes him (especially her) cling onto this rathole of a town, whee the climate this time of year totally sucks? If it were me, one strike and you're out.
I also can't help but wonder if the perps are the same pair of teenagers that tried to rob "Bob" a few weeks ago and that keep popping up in the news with the same modus operandi over and over again.
