Underage Boy Bar Raided in Organised Sting Operation

In ongoing investigations into underage prostitution in Pattaya, police raided a popular A-Go-Go boy bar in the South of the city early on Saturday morning. Officers conducting a sting operation at the premises arrested five underage male prostitutes and several drugs users.

Pattaya, the 24^th of July 2010: At approximately 1:00am on Saturday, Colonel Atisawit Kamonrat (Chon-Buri Immigration Superintendent) in cooperation with the Narcotics Control Board conducted a raid at the “Nice Boy Night Club” in Soi Sunee Plaza, South Pattaya. The operation was instigated following an anonymous tip-off that the gay bar was providing underage boys for prostitution services and was involved with narcotics supply.

Using an undercover agent of foreign nationality, who infiltrated the bar posing as a customer who required the services of an underage employee. Paying a Bt1,300 baht fee he was taken with the boy to an upstairs service room before police stormed the downstairs bar. Upstairs officers confiscated a large amount of illegal pornography and found evidence to support acts of prostitution services being offered at the premises.

During the raid of the “Nice Boy Night Club,” a popular A-Go-Go bar amongst several gay establishments on the street, officers were unable to uncover any narcotics, however some 90 people (approximately 50 staff) were temporarily detained. Resultant checks revealed two boys under the age of 15 and three boys under the age of 18 working in the establishment. A further 10 people (five staff) were found to be under the influence an illegal drug.

Under interrogation, Mr. Nirut Rakmooglang [35] confessed to being the bar manager and explained that the owner of the premises had left the scene merely minutes before the police raid. He subsequently admitted to having knowledge of the underage boys working at the bar but denied knowing about any drug use by his staff.

Following the arrest of all staff members from the establishment, police released approximately 30 people after fining them Bt1,000 each on charges relating to prostitution. The 10 arrested drug users were detained pending further investigations and judicial proceedings while the five underage boys were sent to the Chon-Buri Children and Family Center.

Investigations will now continue in an attempt to find and apprehend the bar owner who is wanted for interrogation over the illegal acts being practiced in his establishment.

I am not defending the gay bars, but it seems that there are only a few gay bars offering underage but there are probably 10-20 times as many girl bars that have children working. I can't help wondering if there would be so much outrage from the many open minded members if the raid had occurred on Soi 6 or Naklua in a girlie bar. Gay bars make good headlines but the underage problem is much bigger than that. Gays have become the expendable news item. It gives the appearance of doing something without touch the far bigger straight and katoey paedophile marketing arena. A typical Soi 6 bar would probably yield a much higher number of child workers and paedophiles engaged in illicit upstairs activities than a gay raid. Let us not forget the Beach Road Fresh Meat Market with its many underage "workers" and their admirers.

Time to get over the homophobia and search out the even bigger problem. There needs to be a few anonymous tips on the straight and katoey places.
