Bangkok named World’s Best City 2010 by leading travel magazine

Share
NEW YORK, July 22 (TNA) - Representing Thailand’s capital and receiving an award naming the Thai capital by Travel + Leisure magazine as the World’s Best City 2010 in a survey conducted among its readers, Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra is the highest profile ambassador for normality to have hit the Big Apple since the Big Mango’s days of blazes and bombs in May.

Ranked top in both the World and Asia, scoring 90.30, Bangkok shot to the top of the reader survey based on an earlier time frame, followed by Thailand’s northern city of Chiang Mai.

Thailand’s Samui Island and Phuket Island in the South were ranked fourth and the fifth respectively among Best Islands in Asia.

At a glittering ceremony at Manhattan’s Trump Soho Hotel, Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand met Travel + Leisure editor-in-chief Nancy Novgorod, which carried out the survey.

Ms Novgorod praised the beauty of Bangkok and Thailand in their natural and cultural aspects.

She expressed sorrow over the recent turmoil but recovery would come soon and that she would visit Bangkok again.

Gov Sukhumbhand was delighted on behalf of Bangkok residents and the Thai people for the award as they put their efforts together to continue to make Bangkok the world’s best city for living and travelling.

The Bangkok governor called for the City of Angels citizenry to continue its traditional hospitality in welcoming tourists and said he would push forward to develop the city to be the World’s best city for tourism.

“Tourists are our guests. We must help them to enjoy staying in Bangkok safely,” he said.

Srisuda Wanapinyosak, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), New York office said both Thai and Bangkok tourism is recovering with more air ticket bookings.

TAT held road shows to give the fact to tourists, tour agencies and air ticket providers in New York, Boston and Washington, DC.

Travel + Leisure, the world’s leading travel magazine, held its annual World’s Best Awards Readers’ Survey for the 15th consecutive year.

Readers were asked to help define excellence in travel by rating airlines, hotels, travel destinations and more.  (MCOT online news)

The votes were based on namely places for sightseeing, their beauty and greenery; arts and culture; food; shopping areas; people's friendliness; and value for money spent.

James, I don't think more "bang for your buck" includes bus stop bombings, which if it continues, will get the city on the list of "places to avoid", understandably so......

It appears those reaching this decision never ventured from their five star accomadations and the "companionship" most likely provided by those in charge. Otherwise, they would've noticed the sidewalks are fit only for a mountain goat, canopys that overhang pedesterian pathways with steel pipes at eyebrow level, the stench of the ever present open sewers, open restaurants that flies are always the dominate customer, the touts/scam artists that are competing with the pickpockets for your attention, just to mention a few of the "best" Bangkok has to offer. Many would agree the magazine has little credibility after reaching such a conclusion, and makes one wonder if TAT had any "influence" on their decision. Could be an interesting investigation for a responsible news service, but then this is Thailand....

The Editor and sub Editor of 'Travel & Leisure' magazine

OK now every one know`s that the magazine is not worth the paper it is print out.

I will use it for my cat litter box.

Bkk trafic is a desaster
bkk air polution is a desaster
bkk water undrinkeble
bkk foot path (where are they)
bkk park`s full of rabbish
bkk full of dog`s
and I can go on and on with this list.

this people never look at New Zeland I suppose.

Or Melbourne , if you where to compare this citys with BKK

BKK look like a DUMP.

for living I would say
Melbourne and NEW Zeland is a natural parck , clear aire ,clean water, clean streets, footpaths all over.

for tourist I would say London , paris, with all the history ,museum

etc...

for plager holiday`s I would say greek island`s , Monako , south Itali. hawai , bali , argentina,
and much more...

but please NOT BKK

Would have been even more accurate if the headline read: Bangkok Voted Worlds Best City To Visit, But Is Not On The List Of Best Places To Live

Which is a very good example of that adage... Nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.
