It can be seriously frustrating when a computer goes down, either through a storm, a mere electrical fault, sabotage or complete blackout and even more so when damage to the hard drive causes it to fail completely, making it impossible to retrieve any important files or data without outside help.

The use of computers for both personal and businesses has become common place in this modern world. Data is important to everyone and losing it can cause chaos and make business survival difficult. In such cases, you may need to subject you hard drive to the process of disc recovery.

Hard drives are the main storage device in computers for data and often, it will crash or undergo sudden failure. Changes in the performance of your computer or the appearance of a blue screen, is a definite indication that the hard drive has crashed. Data may become inaccessible due to physical damage to the hard drive or components, but repair or replacement of the malfunctioned parts can usually solve this.

However, if the magnetic surface which actually stores the information is damaged, the data cannot be recovered and is lost permanently. Recovery software can be used to recover data that has been lost due to accidental deletion of file or formatting or from crashed hard drives.

File Allocation Table (FAT) to a hard disc is as important as an index to a book and losing these means you have lost references to where information is stored. Losing this means you have to use data recovery software or resort to outside help from computer consultants to recover the information. Data recovery software tries to repair FAT during the hard drive recovery process and if successful can retrieve 90-100 per cent of information that has been deleted, whether accidentally or otherwise.

When data has been deleted, it does not disappear from the computer, it gets stored all together in a different location on hard disks. Once the information or images has been deleted, only the address location is left for storage of something else, but the deleted information remains somewhere hidden away until it is recovered using the correct software. All in all, depending on what the damage is to the hard drive, or deleted information, the data along with images is often retrievable.
