A Pattaya street vendor has been found dead in his rental room early on Sunday morning. The body was found by a concerned neighbour, while he is thought to have died after ingesting a substantial amount of toilet cleaner.

Pattaya, the 18th of July 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 4:00am on Sunday, the Sawang Boriboon Foundation received a call for assistance at a rental room in Soi Bongkot, South Pattaya. A team of rescue personnel were immediately dispatched to the incident.

At the scene, on the second floor of a block of rental rooms, the officers discovered the dead body of Mr. Phornchai Traichomphu [28]. Mr. Traichomphu had committed suicide by ingesting a substantial quantity of “Magic Clean” toilet cleaner. Remnants of the liquid and saliva were still apparent inside the mouth of the deceased.

Resultant investigations with the Mr. Traichomphu’s neighbour, Mr. Chaithat Thongchalaem [31], revealed that the deceased had been a local souvenir salesman. He allegedly worked with his brother selling merchandise along Pattaya’s Beach Road. Reportedly, Mr. Traichomphu’s brother had left for their home province of Nonthaburi following a heated argument between the pair the previous day.

Mr. Thongchalaem, also a friend of the brothers, explained that he had not seen Mr. Traichomphu leave for work on Saturday night, knowing about the argument, he deciding to check on him, finding the body and subsequently informing rescue services.

Pattaya Police have now been informed of the incident and an investigation into the whereabouts of the deceased’s brother is in progress. The body of Mr. Taichomphu has been sent for a post-mortem examination at the Banglamung Hospital.
