Organised Gang of Ex-Convicts Arrested in Wire Theft Case

Share
Pattaya police successfully apprehended three suspects involved with the theft of electrical wiring and equipment from the Pattaya Storm Water Treatment Facility on Wednesday. The three men are thought to be part of a larger network of criminals committing similar offences in the area.

Pattaya, the 14th of July 2010: At approximately 00:30am, Lieutenant Colonel Sunan Prempee (Banglamung Police Investigator) was notified of the apprehension of two thieves at the Pattaya Storm Water Treatment Facility in Railway Side Road off Soi Khaotalo in Banglamung. A team of officers with local volunteer police were dispatched to the incident to investigate.

At the scene, officers arrested the two detained suspects, Mr. Pradit Sriphrang [45] and Mr. Khuanchai Phuengkaew [43]. The pair had been apprehended by Pattaya Sanitary Engineering Officers after having been discovered, along with two other men, attempting to steal valuable electrical wiring and equipment from the water treatment facility. The value of the wire and equipment stolen is estimated at approximately Bt1 million.

Searches of the nearby bushland, railroad and waterways resulted in the arrest of a third offender in the theft, Mr. Phumin Viengkham [28]. The forth member of the gang managed to escape apprehension.

Under interrogation, the three offenders claimed to have been hired to steal the items by a man known only as “Mr. Dum.” They were to be paid between Bt3,000-5,000 each for the items. They further explained that there were more than 10 members of the same gang, who had met whilst serving time in Bangkok’s Klong Prem Prison on various drug usage, possession and distribution convictions. Accordingly, the group of men had arranged to form the gang upon release from incarceration.

Additionally, the three men revealed that the gang had been responsible for several thefts in the area over the past few weeks, including the theft of two, 500 KVA transformers with an estimated value of Bt1 million.

Due to the information provided by the offenders, officers have now been instructed to stringently patrol and observe “high-risk” areas in Pattaya in an attempt to arrest other members involved in the theft gang.

The three arrested offenders, who consequently were found to have tested positive for Ya-Ba use, have been charged with various drug and theft related offences and remanded in police custody.

There has to be one comment that suggests that we should pity them, as they are not going to have "a wonderful life". Their very existence is punishment in itself. Just be content that this will not be "our" lot, and leave them be.

These dopefiends are obviously looking for copper wire to finance their drug addiction. Good work by security here in thwarting the crime. Sometimes these thieves get careless and electrocute themselves while committing the crime.

The miscreants in the back of the truck in the headline pic would not have needed climbing equipment to carry out any criminal deed, they could have flown as high as a kite.
