Bangkok, the 11th of July 2010: Thailand’s Tourist Police on Sunday arrested Mexican national Mr. Mauricio Guerra Esparza [33] in possession of several tools, noted as “housebreaking equipment.”
Tourism Police Commander Major General Adis Ngamjitsuksri revealed that the suspect was arrest in front of the Kasikorn Bank branch in Soi On-Nuch 39. His three companions managed to escape apprehension and are on the run.
Maj. Gen. Ngamjitsuksri said that his agency had been tracking the four men, all believed to be Mexican nationals, for several weeks. They are wanted in connection with several robberies in Bangkok.
The gang was found to be using rental cars to sit and observe a variety of businesses in the city, including, retail chains, jewellery stores, gold shops and banks. Having surveyed the scene they would then return, using the rental vehicles, and rob the business or bank.
Following the arrest of Mr. Esparza police have urged all vehicle hire companies to maintain vigilance in checking identification and documents of customers, being sceptical of any group of foreign males who come to rent vehicles.
Investigation will now continue in order to apprehend the further three fugitive men believed to be involved with the case.
