Pattaya Police Patrol Pattaya Bars in Bid to Enforce Law

Police and Officials patrolled Pattaya bars in bid to enforce the laws about advertising alcohol in order to entice customers to consume alcohol.

Pattaya 7th July 2010 [PDN] At 9.00 pm Police Colonel Phonphipat Somboonsuk (Police Inspector7 Deputy Commissioner), Police Lieutenant Colonel Sakhoo Janjamrat (Counter Corruption Division Deputy Commissioner), along with Mrs. Suphaphorn Plodplid (Public Health Academician and Non-contagion Head) from the Disease Control 3 Office, Chon Buri) and the Banglamung Public Health Officer got together to patrolled the entertainment venues in Walking Street, South Pattaya in order to investigate offenders against the Act of Alcohol Control B.E. 2551.

On this occasion, the officers went to inspect the Insomnia Pub, 1122 to find that on its frontage a huge sign advertising beer had been erected. Inside the venue they found beer logo stickers on the draft beer tubes, the tissue boxes, and the ash trays on the tables which were confiscated to be used as evidence. Mr. Thotsaphon Butwong [25] was a manager whilst Miss Saifon Natphook signed as the business operator to get permission.

Police Colonel Phonphipat Somboonsuk revealed that this venue did offend against the Alcohol Control Act 2551, section 31, sentence 1, which stated that advertisements for alcohol were not allowed and anyone advertising alcohol products by showing the name or logo is coercing others to drink. The venue is now awaiting prosecution.

The aim of this patrol was to warn venues to be cautious and not break the law. Simultaneously, they are working along side the Disease Control 3 Office, Chon Buri in reminding the general public to refrain from drinking alcohol during the up coming Buddhists Lent in 3 months.

This news item is so ridiculous that it sounds like an April Fool's Day joke. What an absolute waste of police resources. It is obvious why the world thinks that Thai police are totally useless. Pattaya is filled with real crime. Guns and drugs are everywhere and the police don't do much about them. People are being robbed and even killed by the scum that is taking over Pattaya. Why don't the BIB go after the numerous dangerous criminals.

Beer and liquor logos and advertising? It was inside a bar. WTF do they think customers were there for, only the prostitutes? This law and it's enforcement would be funny if it were not so pathetically stupid. Sounds like a Thai comedy movie plot.
