South Africa, the 6th of July 2010 [PDN]: Dutch captain Giovanni Van Bronckhorst ensured the Oranje got of to a perfect start, firing in a long-range effort in the 18th minute following an extended period of Dutch possession. Diego Forlan restored parity for Uruguay 4 minutes before the interval with a superb individual effort.
Wesley Sneijder gave the Dutch a one-goal buffer once again with his fifth goal of the tournament in the 70th minute before left-winger Arjen Robben looked to have secured the victory with another 3 minutes later. A tense final period ensued for the Dutch when Maximiliano Pereira scored a deflected effort in the first minute of added time, but the Oranje managed to hold out and book their place in the final.
Despite being the masters of total football, the Dutch have never won the World Cup, losing to West Germany and Argentina in the final in 1974 and 1978 respectively. The Dutch will now get a chance to end their World Cup winning woes against either Germany or Spain who play tonight.
