Pattaya, the 6th of July 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 00:15am on Tuesday, Sawang Boriboon Foundation radio command received a report that a man had gone missing in the water off South Pattaya’s Bali Hai Pier. Marine Rescue services were immediately dispatched to the scene to investigate further.

The missing man, known as Mr. Kheaw [approximately 25], had not been seen for over 1 hour and his friend and girlfriend had become increasingly worried that he may have drowned having earlier pledged to commit suicide.
Mr. Khaew’s girlfriend Miss Oraya Krasaethep [25] revealed to officers that her, her boyfriend and another friend had been drinking on the pier during the evening. She explained that Mr. Kheaw had been jumping off the pier into the water several times in an intoxicated state, angry regarding an argument he had just had with her. On the third time of jumping, Mr. Kheaw did not resurface prompting them to call emergency services.
At the scene, a large crowd had gathered to observe rescue efforts ongoing in the water, whilst local police arrived to obtain statements from the pair and file a report of the missing person.

Having searched for over one hour in the surrounding waters and shoreline rescue efforts were called of after no evidence of Mr. Khaew’s body was discovered. Suspecting that Mr. Kheaw had played a practical joke on his girlfriend, officers advised her to return home and report back to the station if he does not appear within the next few days.
Marine Rescue services explained that if Mr. Kheaw had in fact drowned, his body would likely turn up on the shore or floating in the water within 24-48 hours.
