Bangkok, the 1st of July 2010 [PDN]: Customs officers at Suvarnabhumi International Airport arrested the Iranian nation after he was observed acting suspicious whilst passing through the arrivals terminal.
Arriving on a Mahan Air Flight from Tehran, Iran, Mr. Arash Karimi Panabandani [24] was approached to undergo a random search by customs officers.
Subsequent examination of his luggage uncovered nothing untoward however the resultant body search uncovered a concealment of crystal methamphetamine (Ya-Ice) strapped to his body.
In total Mr. Panabandani was found to be attempting to smuggle approximately 1.75kg of Ya-Ice into the Kingdom, contain within a brown cloth bag that had been concealed around his waist. The estimated street value of the illicit drugs is Bt6.1 million.
Under interrogation Mr. Panabandani confessed to having been hired by a major drug syndicate, operating out of Tehran, to smuggle and deliver Ya-Ice to affiliate drug networks in Bangkok. He explained that he had completed three previous deals between the two countries, being paid US$1,000 for each delivery.
Resultant investigations by Thailand’s Narcotics Suppression Control Board (NSCB) found that Mr. Panabandani was suspected to have been hired by a known transnational drug trafficking network currently wanted by the Iranian authorities. He has now been remanded in police custody pending further investigation and judicial proceedings.

Crystal meth is produced using ingredients that can be found over- the- counter in some countries. The ingredients used are asthma and cold medication containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine, lye, hydrochloric acid, red phosphorous, drain cleaner, battery acid, lantern fuel, and antifreeze.
