An 11 month old baby boy has tragically died in Pattaya on Thursday. The baby had been put to bed by his parents before being found dead a short while later in a suspected case of suffocation.

Pattaya, the 1^st of July 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 8:00pm on Thursday, Lieutenant Natthaphon Agaruan (Banglamung Police Investigator) was informed of an infant’s death at a residence in Banglamung, Pattaya. An investigative team of officers along with the Sawang Boriboon Foundation were immediately dispatched to the incident to render assistance.

At the scene, a rental room in the Swimming Pool Specialist Co. Ltd compound, where the parents of the deceased child worked, officers found the deceased child lying face up on the bed. No signs of assault were found on the baby who was duly transported to the Forensic Science Institute where a post-mortem examination will take place.

In an extremely distraught state the parents, Mr. Thephai Teelaphan [19] and Miss Wikanda [18], explained that they had set their son down to sleep before leaving the room at approximately 5:00pm. Upon returning they found the child lying face-down on the bed, motionless and unresponsive, at which point they informed their neighbor for assistance before calling police.

Police speculate at present that the baby had died of suffocation as his airway may have been blocked by the mattress of the bed he was sleeping on. Further investigations will commence upon the results of the post-mortem examination.
