An international investigation into an ongoing credit card scam being propagated across Europe and America has led police to the arrest of over 170 people and the confiscation of approximately 120,000 stolen credit cards recently.

International, the 16th of June 2010 [PDN]: Combined raids across Europe and the United States recently have led to the arrest of 178 people suspected to have been involved in a massive international credit card cloning operation.

Police from 14 countries have been cooperating in the ongoing 2-year investigation into the networks movements with police in Spain initiating the case after several arrest were made in Madrid.

To-date over 120,000 stolen credit cards have been confiscated along with 5,000 successfully cloned cards and the arrest of 178 suspects involved with the estimated Bt800 million operation. Raids have recently been instigated in Romania, France, Italy, Germany, Ireland and the United States.

Earlier raids in Australia, Sweden, Greece, Finland and Hungary also uncovered various suspects thought to have been connected to the network of people arrested recently. Several of the detainees are also suspected to have been involved in armed robberies, blackmail, sexual exploitation and money-laundering affairs.

The range of methods used in the fraudulent use of credit cards included; cloning stolen credit cards, using stolen credit cards and creating new cards with the use of various ATM targeted devices aimed at stealing personal credit card information and pin numbers from unsuspecting citizens.
