Pattaya, the 11th of June 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 2:00pm on Friday, Lieutenant Colonel Prakob Saengpring (Huay Yai Superintendent) along with a team of local investigators activated a sting on the hideout of a known gang of thieves that had been operating in the area. The gang was suspected of having committed armed robberies on up to 10 occasions, stealing money and goods worth over Bt5million.
Swooping to arrest Mr. Uaichai Boonrue [24], Mr. Sorarak Srisangiam [29], Mr. Chatchai Phasuk [31], Mr. Niran Phosri [44], and Mr. Jatuwat Jirapetmogkonchai [39] officers confiscated the gangs Isuzu pickup and a variety of other items that had been used in their crimes before escorting them to the Huay Yai Police Station for interrogation.
The offenders confessed to performing several robberies in the Pattaya/Banglamung and Sattahip areas, most notably a robbery instigated on Mr. Rolf Ernst Seiler [70] and his wife Mrs. Verena Seiler [65] from Switzerland on the 26th of May
2010. In the robbery Mr. Seiler was struck over the head with a pair of bolt-cutters and knocked unconscious whilst his wife was bound and gagged as the gang went about stealing over Bt86,000 baht in cash, a diamond necklace, diamond ring, 5 watches and a gold webbing ring. The jewellery has an estimated value of approximately Bt2 million.
Lt. Col. Saengpring stated that it was of great urgency that these criminals be apprehended as the violent nature of their crimes had been increasing with every case. He praised his team of officers for their vigilance in assisting to apprehend these suspects, revealing his delight at having caught the notorious thieves once and for all. Sattahip Police have now been informed of the arrests so as they may proceed with their own line of enquiries over cases involving the suspects.
