The ongoing lighting and security upgrades along Pattaya’s Beach Road and Jomtien’s Dongtan Beach have been completed successfully and on schedule, according to a press release made by the Pattaya City Mayor on Tuesday.

Pattaya, the 8th of June 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 7:00pm on Tuesday, the Pattaya City Mayor Itthiphol Khunpluem announced to the public at a press conference in front of Soi 4 along Pattaya Beach Road, that the ongoing security upgrades in the area had been completed successfully and on schedule.

The development included the instillation of 38 high-mast 9,000 watt lights along the beach road in Pattaya and Dongtan and the installation of 290 CCTV cameras in the area.

Mayor Khunpluem revealed that the safety and security of Pattaya’s residents and tourists was of top priority and as such an upgrade in security monitoring and crime deterrents was necessary to facilitate police patrols in the area. The development had been ongoing from late May and had been given a completion date of the 11th of June.

In order to achieve the aim, Pattaya City administrators requested financial assistance from the government to facilitate the planned upgrades to which a budget of Bt56 million was allocated.

In conclusion Mayor Khunpluem stated that it was a credit to the private contractors and municipal administrations involved in the development for the timely nature in which constructions were completed. Further stating that residents and tourists could now rest assured that their safety and security is being managed more effectively and efficiently than ever before.

"290 CCTV cameras in the area" and an office full of sleeping Thais not watching them.

Waste of money on the lights. The cops don't do anything if you call them anyway. You could get robbed on the beach, on cam, in the light, and there is a 99.999% chance they would not catch who did it.
