Pattaya, the 31^st of May 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 3:00am on Monday, police Lieutenant Colonel Thailert Luepue (Dongtan Police Investigator) received notification that a foreign man had fallen from his condominium balcony at the Jomtien Suite Condo in Soi Pattaya Park off the Thappraya Road. A team of officers along with the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation were immediately dispatched to investigate and render assistance.

At the scene, the Jomtien Suite Condominium Complex, the severely injured body of Mr. Alexey Kopp [27] a Russian national, was found lying on the pavement surrounding the building. Mr. Kopp was suffering from a severely fractured skull and had significant cuts and bruises to the majority of his body. After rendering on-the-spot first-aid the Sawang Boriboon team immediately transported Mr. Kopp to the Pattaya Memorial Hospital.

Investigations revealed that Mr. Kopp had fallen from his third floor balcony before crashing through a Perspex awning, hitting the concrete carpark below. Police speculate that had he not of hit the awning before impact with the ground he would almost certainly have died in the accident. The only possession Mr. Kopp had on him at the time of the incident was a mobile phone, room key and approximately Bt30 in coins.

The condominium security guard confirmed to police that Mr. Kopp had been living at the condominium on the third floor with his Russian girlfriend for approximately 1 month. On the night in question the couple had gone out into Pattaya, before Mr. Kopp had returned alone, visibly drunk, later in the evening. The security guard further explained that he had heard a loud bang coming from the carpark, investigating to find Mr. Kopp lying on the pavement in a severely injured state.

Police Lt. Col. Luepue stipulated that police are assuming Mr. Kopp had fallen from his condo balcony as a result of his intoxication or that he had attempted to commit suicide over an as yet unknown altercation with his girlfriend. Investigations are ongoing whilst police attempt to make contact with Mr. Kopp’s girlfriend and await his full recovery.
