France, the 27th of May 2010 [PDN]: Following her 6-2, 6-4 demolition of Spain’s Arantxa Parra Santonja in the second round of the French Open, Venus was positively interrogated, at the post-match press conference, over her controversial choice of attire.
Following her showing in the Australian Open were her outfit once again came into question, Venus continued with her fashion assault on tennis by donning a frilly black lace dress with skin coloured underwear, giving the audience an initial impression that she was naked.
As the debate continues to rage over the appropriateness of Venus’s outfit, the champion herself commented “It’s really about the illusion. Like, you can wear lace, but what’s the point of wearing lace when there’s just black under? The illusion of just having bare skin is definitely, for me, a lot more beautiful.”
She has persistently insisted, as she did at the Australian Open, that the “the design has nothing to do with the (my) rear. It just so happens that I have a very well-developed one. It’s all genetic.” Despite the continued debate and objections from various sectors of the game and general public, Venus reportedly stated that she does not intend to tone down her choice of outfit in the future.

Back to the tennis, Venus and top-seeded sister Serena Williams, who is in action today against German Julia Goerges, continue to set the pass in what has so far been an action packed women’s draw at Roland Garros. Venus will next face Slovakian 26th-seed Dominika Cibulkova who made it to the semi-finals of last year’s tournament.
