Police were called to the Bee’s Corner Restaurant & Bar located in Soi Wat Boon Ganjanaram off Jomtien Beach Road on Monday following the discovery of the partially decomposed body of a foreigner who had been staying at the establishment.

Pattaya, the 24th of May 2010 [PDN]: On Monday, Police Lieutenant Colonel Tailert (Dongtan Police Investigator) was called to the Bee’s Corner Restaurant & Bar in Jomtien to investigate the mysterious death of a foreign man in his room.

The deceased, now known to be Mr. David Hourigan [38] from Ireland, had been staying in the room above the bar & restaurant for approximately three months. His deceased body was discovered by establishment staff after they became concerned that they had not seen him for several days.

At present it is unclear what the cause of death is, however Mr. Hourigan’s body has been sent to the Forensic Institute for autopsy, whilst the Irish Embassy in Bangkok has been contacted. At present it is believed the embassy is in contact with both Mr. Hourigan’s family in the Republic of Ireland and Thai authorities.

Mr. Hourigan, a former resident of Moyross, Limerick in the Republic of Ireland, was also an accomplished and well-known cyclist in the 1980’s and early 90’s. He had represented his country at both junior and senior levels, participating in the World Junior Championships in Moscow and the World Senior Championships in Stuttgart.

Most notably Mr. Hourigan was known for being the first Irish winner of the Isle of Man’s Manx International in 25 years, at the height of his professional career in 1992. Controversially Mr. Hourigan was handed a three month ban from cycling in 1994 after testing positive to a banned substance, methyl testosterone, which he claimed was contained within a vitamin supplement that he had been taking.

A spokesman for Limerick Cycling Club said he had dominated the Irish junior scene and had been renowned for winning numerous senior races whilst still being a junior competitor.

A deeply saddening story. It is almost certain that he was drugged by ladyboys and robbed of all his valuables. Let's hope that the so called Thai forensic autopsy has the honesty to reveal the high levels of xanax in his blood.
