Due to the frequency of motorbike robberies occurring, apartment owners are coming up with ways in which to protect themselves and their tenants.

Pattaya, 14th April 2010:[PDN] At 3.00 pm Mrs. Malee Jaemjarern [45] owner of Malee Apartment, Moo5, Naklua, showed a picture from CC TV installed at her apartment of a man [20-23] wearing a white shirt and cream shorts in the process of stealing a red Yamaha Mio motorbike which took less than a minute before fleeing.

Mrs. Jamejarern the landlady of the apartments who owned the stolen motorbike had parked it in front of her apartment on the evening of 12th April, finding it had disappeared the following morning. Inspecting the CC TV to identify the offender, she took the tape the police. Mrs. Jamejarern requested help in catching the offender who had carried out a number of thefts on several occasions at the apartments, resulting in the installation of the CC TV.

In a bid to cut the crime of motorbike thefts, Police regularly patrol the area.

Suksabai Apartment on the Laem Chabang Estate, 183/49-52, Moo 11, Norng Kham, Sriracha, Chon Buri, is a 3-storey building with a pathway to each floor so tenants are able to park their motorbikes directly in front of their rooms.

Mr. Rit Atsadathorn the landlord stated that the pathway around the building is managed by cameras and security guards to protect it from crimes, making the tenants feel confident and safe. Most of the tenants worked in the factories, using motorbikes as a means of transportation to and from their place of work.

Police Lieutenant Colonel (Nongkham Police Investigator) stated, ‘It is good that the landlords of the apartments on the estate are trying to improve the place, preventing crimes against the people and is of great benefit to the police who are trying to lower the crime rate.

This is a theft, not a robbery. The guy didn't pull a weapon or use force against it's owner. A respectable news source should know the difference. You can't "rob a motorbike." You can only rob a person or people.

Lets clamp down on motorcycle thieves!

I have a motorized buggy to get around Pattaya, it's too difficult to steal but it has been vandalized a few times:
Drunken farangs have used it as a toilet on a few occasions late at night. I reported it and offered a stool sample to Pattaya Police but they just weren't interested in tracking down the culprits.
