Norwegian Man Inexplicably Commits Suicide in Pattaya

Yet another foreign national has been found dead in Pattaya after allegedly committing suicide by leaping off of his 14th floor condominium balcony.

Pattaya, the 7th of April 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 00:30am on Wednesday, police Lieutenant Colonel Chatchai Srisuwan (Pattaya Police Investigator) received a report of a foreign man having committed suicide at the Kiangtalay Condominiums, Soi 6, Pratamnak Road. A team of officers and medical personnel were dispatched to the scene to investigate the incident further.

At the scene, on the pavement besides the Kiangtalay Condominiums, police found the deceased body of Mr. Viktor Emanud Boldermo [71]. Wearing only a pair of black sport shorts, Mr. Boldermo had suffered a fractured skull, broken arms and legs as well as a broken neck in the 14 storey fall.

Police investigations revealed that Mr. Boldermo lived with his Thai wife Mrs. Ornricha Boldermo [45] and her young son, having allegedly been together for many years. Mrs. Ornricha explained that her husband had seemed increasingly depressed over the last couple of months, always complaining that he felt like he was ‘too old’ and no longer any use in life.

In relation to the incident, Mrs Ornricha explained that she had gone out shopping with her son, leaving her husband at home, when the pair returned they discovered the deceased body of Mr. Boldermo lying on the pavement outside. Mrs. Ornricha further explained that although her husband had appeared depressed of late she did not anticipate that he would commit suicide as a result.

Officers speculate that Mr. Boldermo committed suicide due to depression in his life, an autopsy will be performed and the Norwegian embassy will be informed of his passing so that funeral arrangements can be made.

Did not think much about it but the next morning the women were found dead outside the building. Suicide my ass, in Thailand this seems to be a normal way of taking out people.

Neither the wife nor the kid look very upset over the incident. And Superman is quite correct, the way she is sitting on the sofa is a little too relaxed for someone who just gained widow status, and feels at all bad about it. Strange hour to be shopping, really does sound more like (at best) she knew what he intended to do and did not want him disturbed before he finished.

norm: You make a valid point. Many balconies in Pattaya have a very low barrier. In fact I remember staying at one hotel many years ago where the barrier was so low, I barricaded the balcony door so that I wouldn't wander out when drunk later that night.

I will draft a letter to the Pattaya Health and Safety Department demanding that balcony barriers/handrails should be a minimum height of 50 inches. This would then hopefully be introduced into Pattaya building regulations.

If people like you and I do nothing then we ourselves are letting our fellow countrymen down.

I have been on many patio's at condo's, I can honestly tell you that, without drinking or drugs I have reached for the guard rail only to lose my balance because they are so low. It is almost like you reach for it and your hand does an ally oop. Like reaching for something that isn't there. Because these railings are so low I would say they account for more than half the suicides. But I am guessing the Thai's already know this but like everything else choose not to do anything. They get the last laugh

Many of us, from time to time, may get a little down in the dumps, but to do that to yourself you have to be very, very mentally ill.

I just don't buy this story, the woman needs interrogating for sure.
I would ask her if his insurance policy was up to date, watch her body language and eye contact then get her into an interview room.

After studying the un-pixillated photographs for the last hour I have observed some interesting facts: The victim's left led appears to be dis-articulated from the pelvis and both femurs appear fractured. The neck is cleanly broken and the left arm is smashed away from the clavicle and the elbow is dislocated. My conclusion is that the man actually landed feet first before smashing his head and that death was instantaneous. In conclusion I would suggest that feet-first landings are rare in suicides this in turn makes me deeply suspicious. However I will withhold my final expert opinions until the autopsy reports.

Since your language is usually lacking all sorts of pronouns she may have meant to say: "We got pretty depressed about the husband over the last couple of months as we felt he was too old and no longer any use in our lives". Translate both into Thai, leave out any pronouns as you usually do...and voila...not much of a difference chai pao?

I don't dare judging whether he jumped or was pushed...but it certainly is very beneficial to a foreigners life expectancy if no Thai family member does have access to your assets nor any Thai is beneficiary of your life insurance.

The police must ensure that they conduct proper interviews with his wife and the arrange for the body to be inspected under the microscope so that signs of any 'foul play' are ruled out. I must comment that the wife and son sitting on the sofa appear to be very relaxed, which strikes me as deeply suspicious, and I admit that it has gone through my mind that whilst they were out 'shopping' a strong person might have thrown the 71 year old 'papa' off the 14th floor which probably caused his broken neck. A deeply saddening story. Let us all hope that justice is done.
