Gang War Erupts After Pattaya International Music Festival

  • Share/Bookmark
After the final night of the Pattaya International Music Festival on Sunday, March 21, as so often happens after such events, there was an incidence of gang warfare between two teenage gangs, involving guns, that resulted in one fatality and three other injuries. Police are currently conducting further investigations into the incident.

Pattaya, 22 March, 2010: In the early morning, today, following the Pattaya International Music Festival, gang warfare erupted under highway bridge no.7 on the Sukhumvit Road, some 50m before the PTT petrol station, Naklua, between two rival teenage motorcycle gangs, involving one gang being shot with firearms.

Being notified of the incident at 1.30am, a police team led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Phongsawat Wongwan (Pattaya Police Investigator), accompanied by paramedics from the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Services, went to the incident to investigate.

On arrival, the police discovered a gang of 50 youths on parked motorbikes gathered round where the severe incident had occurred, to find four shot youths lying in the road, 1 of them dead. The dead youth was Kraisorn Tanphet, 14, a Grade 8 student from Mueng Pattaya 8 Secondary School. He had been shot directly in right eye thoroughly the occipital nerve, with another shot to the right chest. The other three severely injured youths were sent to either Banglamung Hospital or Pattaya Memorial Hospital for treatment. All the injured were from Mueng Pattaya 7 Secondary School. They were Saran Rurorb, 15, shot in the right leg, Natthaphon Thabthim, 17, a Grade 9 student, shot in the left leg, and Supphakiet, 15, shot in the left hip.

At the scene, police also discovered a red Honda Wave 10m from the dead body, as well as eight 9mm bullets and three no. 12 bullets, (2 used and 1 unused) on the road, which were kept as evidence.

Questioning Aphichat Rordnoi, 16, a friend of the deceased youth, who had been riding pillion at the time of the incident, police were told that before the incident, the gang leader, Kraisorn, and 50 gang members had gone to the final night of the Pattaya International Music Festival 2010 at the Bali Hai Pier Stage, South Pattaya. After the end of the festival, all the gang members left by motorbike, in order to either go home or drop friends off at different points.

At the same time, several other teen gangs were driving motorbikes out of the concert, going home. When Kraisorn’s gang reached 20m away from the incident, they found 20 youths belonging to a rival gang had parked their motorbikes beside the road. One of these teenagers pulled out a gun and began shooting at members of Kraisorn’s gang, killing the gang leader and severely injuring three others. Frightened by the developments, the other members of Kraisorn’s gang fled the scene in different directions. The gang containing the shooter also fled.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Nanthawut Suwanlaorng (Pattaya Police Superintendent) put the incident down to inter-gang rivalry and told the press that the police are currently conducting further investigations into the incident to bring the assailant to justice.

Pattaya is and will always be a great place to live. To many who come here, judge it by their own countries. Also Pattaya is not just, as one poster said, for perverts etc. There is something here for everyone.

Wake up in the morning, the sun is shining almost everyday..Do not criticise Pattaya enjoy it. Its a great life living here. remember...like draws like...so you will not be involved in anything, not unless you are so inclined

PDN, you really need to be more selective about which photos you use or videos. This is terrible stuff. No captioning of stills and video shows exactly what the stills do. Come on guys, buck up and get proffesional. I have seen better stuff on U tube....

It is sad that 14 yr. old boys have guns and are victims of others that do, but when being brought up in this society it should be expected. I am surprised to see that the crime scene is open to the traffic and pedestrians. Just tape off around the body for all to see and talk on your radios boys, look important and do your job. hmmmm... I wonder about the training of some of these Police sometimes. One would think that a crime scene would be protected better than the Thais do it. It is a good thing that most criminals confess to their crimes in Thailand other wise I don't think too much would get solved.

Later guys............

Nice tourism promo for Pattaya.
Aside from the barely legal bargirls, trannies for hire and hairless boys seeling their buttocks, what does Pattaya have to offer? Only foreign perverts and deviants go to Pattaya. No sane guy under 30 goes and certainly no educated pretty foreign girl would go near the place. Someone should just flush this toilet, and fast.

Andrew: I take it you've never been to Los Angeles? The gang activity and violence here in nothing to what happens in LA, the drive-by shooting capital of the World.

This is a Darwin-ian result. Too many people. Too much breeding. It is happening all over the world. Too many unruly kids, out of control. Bad Parenting comment: correct. Have fewer children and give them more attention. It is simple math: if you have one kid, you can be on top of him/her. If you have 4 or 5 or like the Octo-mom, EIGHT, there is no way you are going to bring them up successfully. I used to enjoy my visits to Pattaya. No more, sorry guys. It's over.

Just like being in the ghetto. You never know who has a gun and the slightest incident can cause a shooting.

Unlicensed teenage kids riding motorcites at 0130 hrs, carrying guns and killing each other. Doesn't say much for Thai parenting skills. One has to question why law enforcement chooses to ignore these individuals and only intervene after the shooting is over.

A very sad case indeed. It always comes as a huge sadness to me when Thai males are gunned down in cold blood by opposing gang members. If this poor boy had been given the chance to live, he would have led an honest crime-free life and been able to help and assist visiting tourists in Pattaya, whilst maintaining the 'Land of Smiles' image.

This is scandalous. In any other country it would be national headline news. These are schoolchildren! Until there is some form of discipline at home and at school this will continue to happen. I'm sure the parents are very sad but its about time these excuse for parents are held accountable. Pattaya really is a terrible place.

Why are they driving in the first place? It certainly doesn't bother me as they eliminate each other off the roads. Good for us sane drivers.
