Pattaya, March 20, 2010, [PDN], Mr. Nigel William Bickel, 48, the gang leader of a drug gang, was originally arrested for drugs on 15 January, 2009. His visa was cancelled, his name was put on a black list and he was subsequently deported.
He then apparently re-entered Thailand and had been laying low in the interim. However, he was again arrested on 2 September 2009, in front of LK Apartment, Soi Batman, South Pattaya, charged with being in possession of 100 Ecstasy tablets (Ya-E) and drug dealing, along with his two gang members. His two Thai henchmen, Mr. Samart (Dum), Chaibumrung, 32 Mr. Tanatorn (Tia) Chaoraina, 32, had also been caught the same day with 6.3 grammes of Ya-ice at Soi Siam Country Club’s entrance, Central Pattaya. They admitted to being part of the same drug gang of which Bickel was the boss. Bickel was subsequently released on bail, and took the opportunity to flee the country at an unspecified date in September.
However, Bickel subsequently, returned to Thailand via Suvarnabhumi International Airport on an Emirate Airline flight from Dubai, arriving on 27 September 2009. His reason for so doing was later given as because he wanted to sell his house. He then apparently lay low until he
was arrested a third time on 19 March 2010.
Bickel was re-arrested at approximately 1.20am on 19 March, whilst walking down the street in Pattaya by Police Colonel Atitsawat Kamonrat (Chonburi Immigration Superintendent) and taken to the Immigration Police office at Chonburi Immigration, Jomtien. No reason has been given for his arrest on 19 March, or how the police knew that he was back in the country.
Under interrogation at the Chonburi Immigration Ofiice, Bickel admitted to having had help from a Thai lawyer to enter the country on 27 September 2009. However, it subsequently came to light that two ladies (names withheld) who worked at a lawyer’s office in Thepprasit Road, Jomtien, had somehow arranged for him subsequently re-enter it on 27 September. He told police that he had just managed to get through immigration control, without his name sounding alarms on the black list register. There had then been a Thai man holding a paper with his name written on it, waiting for him at the Passenger Arrivals. The man took him to Pattaya by a taxi and he was taken to the lawyer’s office to pay an arrangement fee of Bt35,000 for entering the country. However, to leave again, he will have to pay an unspecified sum that will entail him having to sell his house.

Learning of this Thai lawyer and her cohort’s illegal collaboration, a search warrant from the Pattaya City Court was generated and a search conducted of the Thai lawyer’s office in Thepprasit Road, Jomtien. In the office, 32 documents relating to Bickel’s case were discovered and are being kept as evidence. Subsequently, Bickel will be sent for further investigation at Suanphlu, Bangkok.
