Pattaya, the 16th of March 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 12:30am, Laem Chabang police investigator Lieutenant Colonel Phitak Nernsaeng received a report of a shooting incident at a rental room in Sriracha. Responding to the call a team of police along with volunteer rescue officers attended the scene immediately.

Arriving at the residence, a single storey rental block, police confronted Mr. Decha Thongphued [29] who was lying in a pool of blood suffering what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the left side of his groin. Mr. Thongphued was immediately rushed to the Au-Udom Hospital by rescue team personnel, where he later died from the injury. An x-ray of Mr. Thongphued’s body revealed that the bullet had gone into his groin, passing through his pelvis and finally lodging in his stomach, killing him.
Police interviewed Mr. Thongphued’s wife, Mrs. Jurarat Boonpheng [29] who informed officers that she had been outside when she heard a gun shot from inside the house. Knowing that her husband had been cleaning his .38 calibre pen gun she rushed inside to find him lying on the floor bleeding profusely from his groin. Mrs. Boonpheng explained that she then immediately rang the Au-Udom Hospital for assistance.

At present police assume that the death was an unfortunate accident, resulting from the carelessness of Mr. Thongphued whilst he was cleaning his gun. Mr. Thongphued’s body has now been sent for autopsy at the Institute of Forensic Science in Chon-Buri city, following which a report will be filed on the actual cause of death.
