Pattaya, the 16th of March 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 1:00am on Tuesday morning, Dongtan police investigator, Lieutenant Colonel Ekkadit Simoon was notified of a major traffic accident involving two foreigners on the Thappraya Road, Pattaya. A police investigative team and Sawang Boriboon Foundation rescue personnel proceeded to the scene to render assistance.
At the location, police discovered a black Isuzu D-Max pickup severely damaged sitting in the middle of the road. Further up from the pickup, approximately 50 meters, a badly damaged black Toyota Yaris was also present in the middle of the road. The two foreign men who had been inside the Isuzu were waiting at the scene, fortunate to have only suffered minor injuries in the accident. Both men were found to be British nationals and in a severely intoxicated state.
Police interviews with an eyewitness, the security guard from outside the Royal Hill Condominium complex on
Thappraya Road, stated that the Isuzu had been travelling along at speed when it suddenly swerved into the parked Toyota. As a result of the collision the Isuzu then rolled several times before coming to a stop nearly 50 meters up the road.
Police subsequently arrested both men, taking them to the local Dongtan police station. The driver of the pickup has been charged with driving under the influence, negligent driving and will be held responsible for any compensation claim filed against him by the owner of the Toyota that was damaged in the accident.
