Pattaya Police Begin Investigation into Russian Rape

Following the vicious assault and rape of a Russian tourist on Sunday, Pattaya police have begun an extensive investigation in an attempt to apprehend the violent suspect before he offends again.

Pattaya, the 15^th of March 2010 [PDN]: In the early hours of Sunday morning, Russian tourist Miss Senia Mulakatanya (alias) [25], was assaulted and raped by a motorbike taxi driver who she had procured to take her home. On the night in question Miss Mulakatanya had been drinking with some friends on Walking Street, South Pattaya. The motorbike taxi station at the entrance to Walking Street across from Bali Hai Pier had already been shutdown by police on Sunday night, in response to the incident.

Lieutenant Colonel Phatsa Detphakkul (Pattaya Police Investigator), on Monday morning, escorted Miss Mulakatanya to the location from which she caught the motorbike taxi and subsequently to the location, an area of bushland off Pratamnak Road, where the incident occurred. Officers searched the scene for evidence and obtained some invaluable CCTV footage from around the area of the motorbike taxi station.

The motorbike taxi station in question was found to employ a total of 18 drivers. Police subsequently were able to interview 4 of the drivers in regards to the case, although, none of the 4 men were identified by Miss Mulakatanya as the offender. Following the interrogation of the men, police applied for arrest warrants for the remaining 14 suspects.

Pattaya police Deputy Superintendents, Lieutenant Colonel Tharathep Toopanich and Lieutenant Colonel Klitsakorn Thongin along with Deputy Chief Inspector Somphob Khuhawan held an investigative meeting at the Pattaya Police Station in order to discuss an action plan for the successful apprehension of the violent offender. It has been revealed that composite sketches will be drawn up and distributed whilst the interrogation of the remaining 14 unaccounted for drivers is in process.

Police have urged any of the men working at the motorbike taxi station in front of the entrance to Walking Street on Sunday morning, to hand themselves into police immediately for questioning or face being arrested.
