Infant Child Dies After Miscarriage in Pattaya Toilet

A newborn baby died at the Niran Grand Condo complex in Pattaya on Saturday. The 19-year-old mother gave birth to the baby boy, who subsequently died, only six month into the pregnancy following severe stomach pains.

Pattaya 13th March 2010 [PDN] At 9.30pm, Police Lieutenant Colonel Phoomphat Namphuttha Pattaya Police Investigator, rushed to the Niran Grand Condo, Building D, in Soi Arunothai, Moo 9, Pattaya. A team from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation also attended the scene in response to an emergency call informing them of the death of a new born baby.

On arrival at the 10 storey Condo, room 521/171 on the 6^th floor, Police found Mr. Pevez Pierre Moise [77] a Dutch National waiting for them. He took the officer to the bathroom where the body of a male infant with the umbilical cord still attached was in the toilet. Miss Arunothai Klinkaew [19] from Udorn Thani who was visibly upset was nearby in a critical condition due to a substantial loss of blood as a result of the birth. The woman was immediately rushed to the Banglamung Hospital for treatment.

Miss Klinkaew stated that she arrived at the condo in order to meet with her friend who was unavailable. Feeling unwell with stomach pains, she knocked on the door of Mr. Moise’s room asking to use the bathroom, when without warning, she gave birth. She called out to Mr. Moise for help, who in turn called the emergency services. It appeared the infant was dead before the arrival of the Police.

The reported cause of death was miscarriage as the woman was only six months pregnant and the infant was born in unsanitary conditions having sunk into the water of the toilet. Officers will, however; continue with an investigation once Miss Klinkaew’s health has improved and an autopsy on the infant is conducted.
