Drunk Rider Killed Instantly in Pattaya Motorbike Accident

Share
Alcohol, high speed and no helmets have caused yet another fatal motorbike accident in Pattaya on Friday morning. The two motorbikes collided at high speed travelling in the same direction, an elderly man died instantly while the other rider was fortunate to suffer only minor injuries.

Pattaya, the 12th of March 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 6:00am, police Lieutenant Colonel Thanadej Duangtapiyachai (Banglamung Police Investigator) was notified of a fatal motorbike accident on the Railway Road, north bound lane between Soi Wat Thamsamakkhee Temple and Soi Khao Noi, East Pattaya. A team of police along with Sawang Boriboon Rescue personnel were sent to investigate and render assistance.

Arriving at the scene, officers discovered the deceased body of Mr. Charnsak Thapthimsri [60] lying on the road, face down in a pool of blood. Evidently Mr. Thapthimsri had suffered several severe skull fractures and is presumed to have died instantly. Nearby was the Suzuki RC motorbike that the deceased was riding, the front and side of the bike had suffered minor body damage in the collision.

Waiting to provide a statement, remarkably, only suffering minor cuts and bruises was Mr. Jatuphorn Phokrak [17], from Nakhon Sawan province. He explained to police that he had been returning home to Soi Khao Noi from his Walking Street job when the accident occurred. Mr. Phokrak stated, as he was riding along the Railway Road he noticed another motorbike swerving from side to side, crossing two lanes of North bound traffic. Assuming that the rider was intoxicated, Mr. Phokrak revealed that he had started to overtake when Mr. Thapthimsri collided into him causing both men to fall from their bikes. Mr. Thapthimsri died instantly on impact with the road surface whilst Mr. Phokrak was thrown against a roadside rubbish bin.

Mr. Thapthimsri’s body has been taken to the Banglamung Hospital for autopsy; his relatives will be informed of the incident so that they may proceed with funeral arrangements. Mr. Phokrak was arrested for further questioning at which point police will decide whether charges will be laid.

Come on PDN! You've already labeled the deceased as a "drunk rider" based solely on a claim he had been weaving, made by the reckless rider who appears to be at totally at fault for killing him. His story does not make sense and this clown is hardly a credible source of information. Not very responsible journalism.

idiot obviously overtook way too close to the old guy, if you can see someone is swerving around you take it into account and give them a wide berth

Amusing story from the arrested driver; he sees the old guy weaving all over the road in front of him so (of course) he speeds up. Does not make sense, but then that's probably why he is in jail.

A very sad story. At 60 years of age he should have known better. I always insist my two kids aged 9 and 12 wear their motorcycle helmets when they leave together for school on their Honda, also the under-chin strap is important so the helmet doesn't fly off after collision.
