Second Excrement Attack at Thai PM’s Residence

A man from a Mekong riverside town was apprehended by police Tuesday after throwing a bag of animal excrement at the fencing of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's Bangkok residence.

Bangkok, the 9th of March 2010 [TNA]:  the Police identified the man as Khamphong Samart, 56, a native of Nakhon Phnom province in Thailand’s northeastern region. Pol Lt Col Supakorn Kaewthong of Thong Lor police station said Mr Khamthong said to police investigators that his action was done from resentment for what he considered as injustices.

Mr Kamthong told police that came to Bangkok by bus and arrived at the Mor Chit bus terminal and caught a taxi to the prime minister’s home in Bangkok’s upscale Sukhumvit area, where he intentionally hurled the bagged animal dung over the front gate of the house.

The bag was found stuck to the fence due to added fencing set up after a disgruntled Bangkok resident last month tossed parcels of foul-smelling human excrement and fermented fish into the grounds of the prime minister’s home.

The latest incident, at 7.15am, took place despite the presence of a larger contingent of security personnel deployed at Mr Abhisit’s home and measures designed to prevent, along other things, such untoward actions. The premier was still at home but left five minutes later for Government House for work.

Pol Lt Col Supakorn said Mr Kamthong has been charged with defacing property and causing public embarrassment to others. He was to be sent to Bangkok’s Criminal Court for arraignment.

Last month, 42-year-old junk trader Wiwitwin Teosawat carried out an aerial excrement bombardment into Mr Abhisit’s compound. Mr Wiwitwin said his protest indicated his frustration with the police and city government officials who ignored his complaints about neighbours who always smoked cigarettes near his house. He said their smoke negatively affected his daughter’s health. The assailant said that he acted alone and that his action had nothing to do with politics. He was jailed for five days. (TNA)
