Sattahip 8th March 2010 [PDN] At 00.10am Police Lieutenant Anon Infong, Na Jomtien Police Investigator, received a report from a volunteer of the Sawang Rodjanatham Rescue Foundation, that an accident had occurred which involved the collision of a pickup truck full of workers and an electricity pylon, leaving four injured and one dead.
A foreman had loaded a team of construction workers onto the back of a Toyota Tiger pickup at Baan Toa Than in the area of the Lom Dee Village project in order to drop them off at their residence in the vicinity of Soi Wat Yansangwararam, when the accident occurred. The driver fled, leaving the dead and injured.
At the scene, opposite the entrance of Nong Nuch Garden Center, a blue Toyota Tiger was discovered, badly damaged, in the drainage area of the central traffic island. Beside the vehicle were the electricity post that
had been knocked over and the dead body of Mr. Suphiep Yaebdee [44] from Buri Ram who had suffered serious injuries, along with a broken neck. The other passengers, Mr. Kriangkrai Paton [32], Mr. Sakit Sriburum [39] from Sakonnakhon, Mr. Niwet Trisoon [54] from Khon Kaen, and Mr. Garun Piala [33] from Kalasin, were all transferred to the Sirikit Hospital for emergencytreatment.
On being questioned, Mr. Trisoon who had ridden beside the driver, stated that before setting off for home, they had all drunk six bottles of beer between them prior to Mr. Ngern, the foreman, driving them to their residence. As they approached the scene of the accident, the driver lost control of the pickup, colliding with the electricity pylon, finishing up in the middle of the island. The workers had been thrown from the vehicle in different directions with Mr.Ngern fleeing, seemingly uninjured.
