Pattaya Art Shop Completely Destroyed by Raging Fire

Late on Thursday night Pattaya police and fire crews where called to extinguish a raging shop fire on Pattaya’s Second Road. The fire appeared to have originated on the ground floor of a 3-storey shop house.

Pattaya, the 4^th of March 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 10:00pm Lieutenant Colonel Phonsawat Wongwarn (Pattaya Police Investigator) and the Pattaya Fir Department were informed of a blazing shop house fire in front of the Welcome Plaza Hotel on Pattaya’s Second Road. Emergency services went to the scene to attempt to contain and extinguish the blaze.

At the scene, a 3-storey shop house, fire crews immediately set about battling a blaze that appeared to have originated on the ground floor in one of the shop houses – the building was a row of eight 3-storey shop houses. Firemen, battling the fire for over an hour, finely managed to extinguish the blaze before it was able to spread to the surrounding residences and businesses.

Investigators have speculated that the fire originated in the kitchen of the art shop on the ground floor. The kitchen was fully equipped with a range of electrical equipment which may have been responsible for the blaze. Various flammable materials and liquids present in the art shop helped to intensify and spread the fire. The damage caused and property lost has an estimated value of approximately 1 million baht.

Police interrogated Mr. Boonchai Saengokat [51], the owner of the art shop, who explained to police that he was shopping at the nearby Tesco-Lotus in North Pattaya when he had received a call from his neighbour regarding the fire. Mr. Saengokat stated that he had rushed to the scene immediately, discovering the out of control fire he phoned the emergency services for assistance.

They seem to blame every fire, residential or commercial on electrical problems. I wonder if it was another coke cooler. How they come up with these decisions so quickly is beyond me. I would say that it may be a possible electrical fire but why does it become a raging fire and destroy everything. This does not say very much for the response of the Fire Dept. or it's ability to fight fires. Maybe for economic reasons they don't get reported soon enough to extinguish the blazing inferno. I was looking for the culprit coke cooler in the photos but I couldn't see one. Oh Well. Probably no insurance anyway.

This is the second "raging" fire this week. I bit my tongue, laughed and ignored it the first time. Can a house or business be destroyed by a non-raging fire?
